game doesnt start anymore

after clicking on the start button the small black starting-box appears, the box flashes about 5 times and disappears again. a new installation brougth the same problem.

Sorry to hear that.... I suggest you try Steam Support (click "Help" in the top lefthand area of this Steam page, and then when the menu opens, click on "Steam Support").

yeah, its like a cold car.

it doesn't start, but I try it multiple times sequetially and it does start. its a timing thing.

not sure what caused it. but it takes about three attempts to start it. while the previous attempt is still going,

Did you try verifying the game cache integrity?

I've got the same problem. I'm running Windows 10 and the issue started after three updates on Jan. 10, 2017. The day before the game worked great.

I verifed the game cache integrity on BtS, Warlords, and Civ 4. No problems. For good measure I reistalle them all again anyway. No luck.

Same Problem, It gets to "Init Audio" then dies. Tried everything the others tried. No luck, started after a windows update.

After checking around and buying a new program “Reg Utilities”, I found the real problem was “python24.dll”. Not sure why but at first I thought it was the “Init Audio” but every other program worked OK. To make a long story short – I renamed “pytahon24.dll” in the folder “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization IV Beyond the Sword” to {xxxpython24.dll}. Downloaded and copied the new one to the same folder and “Beyond the Sword” started working. Now I can play my favorite mod “Realism Invictus”.
This is the version I downloaded from the Reg Utilities Database sit, using their program.

This has actually happened to me, not with Civ, but with other games. All I did, was went up to the 'Steam' option, in the top left hand corner of the steam browser. pressed 'Exit' and restarted steam.

As unlikely as it sounds, it fixed my problem, that was effecting 4 games.
