Basically, in my view Race07 is 2 steps forward 5 steps back compared to GTR2. But it also depends on what one prefers. I mostly enjoy Endurance events, and Race07 is behind in that regard compared to GTR2.
- GTR1 is using the gmotor engine (F1 Challenge, Nascar Thunder 2003 and 2004), bringing the same flaws (low speed spinning) and with an unrealistically hard tire model ; the visuals have been vastly improved.
EDIT : the tire model was amazing at this time, a few hardcoded issues were included, but it was a huge step at that time ; it is easy to criticized now but these was incredible simulators, and they are still good nowadays, don't get me wrong, I speak from a current point of view. You still can have an amzing experience with these games, a much better experience than many racing games.
- GTL uses the gmotor for physics and, if I remember well, the gmotor2 engine (rfactor) for the graphics (or the contrary?). It recreates a real FIA championship created to run historic cars with modern equipment (tires, rollcage...) ; so it is quiet unique and not comparable with Power & Glory, which simulates old racing cars in their original form. The physics are enjoyable and unique. The presentation is immersive, the cars and tracks selection is great.
- GTR2 uses the gmotor2 (rfactor) for both physics and graphics ; as anyone knows, this is the most complete experience with great moddability. The AI is consistent on dry and wet, even on most modded tracks, so once you have set its strength you're good to go. Creating championships with specific rules is as simple as editing a text file. Now it can be used in VR wirth Crewchief. The tire model has improved from GTR1, much forgiving and less "computerized".
- Race07 is an improved GTR2 in the FFB aspects, you feel a bit more details. No Night & Day cycle, but wipers under the rain. I don't know why, for me the graphics have always have something less realistic, more "plastic" than GTR2. There's a lot of nice series, cars and tracks (with all the DLCs). It is less immersive than GTR2 with its complete championship presentation. It is closer to Raceroom. Now it has tons of mods and should be as good as GTR2, but it still lacks some of its predecessor features.
FFB is also improved in GTR2 - physics and video threads are decoupled (so FFB depends less on FPS, but I'd say biggest difference is motion/transducers and CC spotter responsiveness). You can even raise player physics rate. Also, I just added Real Feel Plugin support :) If you ever fire up GTR2, would be curious if that will change how you see FFB in GTR2.
