GTR 2 - FIA GT Racing Game

This is the best racing sim ever made
Hands down, sure newer games have better graphics, but this sim has so much soul its unreal. Running those 575 and 550 ferraris around the tracks is just bliss. So hyped to be playing this again. It's incredible how realistic it is with just a few choice mods.

Meanwhile in this game racing huge fields of WTCC or GT300 cars, driving on the limit for half an hour or more with really smart AI nipping at my heels, is just an incredible experience. I deeply wish this style of driving sim hadn't been abandoned.
Anyways, have fun :)
Just another example of the pressures of making a game "look amazing" but at the cost of game play.. which is why we buy them in the first place.

This IS a proper game, I fully agree!
Nice addition (read: a must) is Crew Chief and you don't know what happens: playing this in VR is awesome.

Just a small downside: the content is harder to find now it gets older.
I wanted this game because of Baltimore and driving a relatively modern Indycar on it. There is mentioning of a 2018 or 2020 Indycar by "Jojo", but it is not there anymore.
But hey, a lot of stuff is very good on this game: AI adjusts itself and not "1 second faster is 1 second faster all the time".......there are not a lot of games doing this, sending a car at you when you drive off.
It's got a lot of these small things that makes it proper!

And it didn't come onto the market as an early access, beta version, buggy version.
Everything was there and worked flawlessly right from the start.
The rubbish that comes onto the market today defies description. LMU and Motorsport or whatever the stillbirth is called, on the other hand, are junk that is worth less than the droppings of dogs.
Better graphics, better sound, physics talk that even the Nobel Prize winners in theoretical physics would give up their Nobel Prize. Just hot air. But that's all.
GTR2 was great. GTL and RFactor as well.
They ran on the same engine, after all.
It's sad that they can't do that anymore today.
I don't mean DLCs.
That's accessories like the cigarette lighter in a car. You don't need it to drive a car.

I agree with everything here. Times have changed in the gaming world. It seems everything is rushed to market to meet the deadline and then dropped for the next shiny object.

As my sister always likes to say, "Capitalism ruins everything!" It's just the nature of a largely unregulated industry to screw it's customers at every turn. The only thing that ever ensured high quality sims was people not buying crappy ones, but now, judging by the popularity of Forza and Gran Turismo, people accept whatever. And so we don't get games like this anymore :(
BTW I like Forza and GT, but they have problems.
