GTR2 wont start

So yesterday i was playing GTR2 i played for an hour or so before exiting the game, I tried to launch the game a few hours later to find a minidump so i looked around steam for advice, the most common peace of advice was to get a patch so i did, but ever since then (not sure if its the car and track mods I have) the game when launched brings up the command prompt (which is normal) but then nothing happens the game doesnt even start and theres no minidump either, i tried reinstalling it several times only to get the same result. Dont really know what to do.

You most likely need to set the compatibility of the game to Windows 7 or 8 .

Right click GTR2.EXE - Properties - Compatibility...

Changed the compatability to Windows 8 didnt work, now changed it to Windows 7 and i still get the same result from Steam and the directory, should I restart my computer for the changes to work

Does it get stuck in a black screen like it's happening to me?

Well i just restarted my pc and im yet to see if thats done anything and it doesnt even get to a black screen, the game just doesnt load, the command prompt shows up like normal and then nothing dont even get the config at the start after the command prompt closes

For me its: I click Play on Steam - command prompt appears "sudo.exe" - Press Yes on Windows notification you get - Nothing else happens

It should be - I click play on Steam - Command prompt "sudo.exe" - Press Yes on Windows notification you get - Config appears and you sort out what you want (where you choose your game resolution/if you want it windowed or not etc) - Play the game

Well, it's different from my problem then, the game starts but gets stuck in a black screen. Have you installed the 1.1 patch and noCD fix?

I think I installed the 1.1 patch and fix but ill install it anyway to see what happens

Already had the patch according to Properties menu so i downloaded the NoDVD patch for 1.1 which told me to also get a 4GB patch to make sure it worked, however same results

Also have some notepad files in the directory about a 10th anniversary patch which i installed to try and resolve the issue last night, maybe all these replacements of the main GTR2 programme has caused it to not work

This workaround works for me, I'm running GTR2 with noCD patch & 4GB patch on Windows 10 Pro:

-Right-click GTR2 in your Steam client > manage > browse local files.
-If you have XD plugin installed delete the XD.ini file. A new one will be created after running the GTRConfig.exe file.
-Right-click GTR2Config.exe > properties > check the "run as administrator" box, check the "run in compatibility mode" box and select Windows 7, check "disable full screen optimizations" box. Run the GTRConfig.exe file and configure graphics settings.
-Right-click GTR2.exe > properties > check the "run as administrator" box, check the "run in compatibility mode" box and select Windows 7, check "disable full screen optimizations" box. Game should work fine after that.

-For whatever reason sometimes the graphics settings change on their own to some weird resolution/refresh rate which causes a black screen when I start the game, if that happens after the workaround above you need to run the GTRConfig.exe file again and reconfigure your graphics settings.
-Whenever the NVidia drivers get updated I need to run the GTRConfig.exe file again and reconfigure graphics settings.
-Sometimes after a major/feature Windows 10 update I need to run the GTRConfig.exe file again and reconfigure graphics settings.

Shane I got the same minidump error message as you did when I first started the game. The problem was that there are two Config files for this game: one in the main game folder and the other one in the GTR 2 folder my My Documents. You gotta make sure both files have the exact same content. After I did this I was able to play the game.
