Setup and AI issues
Hello people,

I have some problems with this game.

First is that with certain driving school tests I'm unable to make changes to the carsetup, it will always go to the default, no matter what I change in the garage.
I'm using a gamepad and can't control the car well if I can't set the caster to max.
While I can pass the tests (so far) I can't get gold for certain tests unless I can make changes.

The other problem I have is with the AI.
During qualification they're 4 to 7 seconds per lap faster than me, but during a race they're all of a sudden slower and below 100% AI strength I have little problems winning races.
I have the same problem in GT Legends and it just seem badly optimized, but it would be nice to not have to start from last position each race.

dont know about the driving school thing, but the ai quicker than you in qual is a known thing and has always been, for years,

i found this in an old post from 2009 on Racedepartment:

"Ok here is how you change it:

Go open up the track folder and go into a file called "AIW"
Scroll down a bit untill you see a line called "Race/Qual Ratio"

RaceQualRatio=(0.9950) // Used to slow down AI slightly in race compared to qualification
CheatDelta=(0.0000,0.0000,0.0000)

If at 1 the Qualifying pace will be at identical pace to the Race pace. 0.9999 or less qualifying will be quicker if above 1 race pace will be quicker than qually pace."

link to the actual thread for better context:

Also a thread on AI tweaking from 2008 by Vondutch, somewhat of a guru at the time:

I will try this, a big thank you!

no worries, its been a while since this cropped up, but hopefully these tips will help. for my money, its still one of the best all round racing sim, encompassing the feel and soul of a race weekend, while still providing decent enough racing and graphics to hold itself in high enough regard, even over 10 years after its release.

ive always been a big fan of all the gmotor titles, race07, gtr1/2 , game stock car, stock car extreme, automobilista , etc, you get the point.

It's worth mentioning that GTR2 has seperate RaceRatio and QualRatio settings, rather than a single RaceQualRatio setting, so it might work slightly differently.

Just to let anyone know, I got around it by downloading the essential GTR 2 mods from Nogripracing, which have fixed the AI. However it broke the drivingschool since it leaves you with default carsetups which are way to slow.

I still have another annoying issue though, and that is there are occasionally framerate hickups during driving, which I remember having some time ago too when I just got this game, I eventually solved this but forgot how, that is until now.
This issue is caused because the executable is locked to use only cpu/thread 0 affinity, which is often used for the OS and primary functions.
On my old PC with a Radeon card I used Radeon Pro to free the executable to use my other cpu's but I don't know how to do it on my Nvidia/Intel PC.
Does anyone know a good way/tool to fix the affinity of the gtr2 executable?

Hi Dot Matrix, you should try Process Lasso. Google it and download it, you can permanently set affinity of any processes. Assigning all CPU threads helped me a lot with GTR2 and GT Legends, my frame rates are higher by 10-15 fps.

Thanks for the suggestion.
