Draft Day Sports: College Football 2018

Basics
Spend all of your recruiting points weekly. Interview you recruits immediatly and see if they like your program or unlock hidden specialties. They will tell you if they want to stay close to home, if early playing time matters, or winning records or program size is important or not.

Be realistic. A bunch of three star players are better than losing recruiting points on four and five star recruits you can't sign, then your roster gets filled with two and one star recruits. Players have front runners listed in scholorships offered. If you see three bigger colleges and a player does not mind not playing close to home, you are probably out of the running. Find other players.

Play to your squad. In the early years you must change your schemes to match your players. Your QBs and other key spots will vary in talent, intelligence, and abilities. You must play to their strengths and toss out plays that don't. When you get a bigger more steady program that brings the talent you like, you may be able to run a certain playbook and insert talent. The game makes you adjust to your players or lose early and often.

You can win with weaker teams on offense by playing to your talents. Only the left side of the line is better? Play to it. Run a larger percentage of important runs left. Good QB but slow recievers, run comebacks and curls instead of fly patterns and posts.

Bad defenses are harder to win with. They get burnt, early and often, and one wrong play selection exploits them worse as well. You must get a better defense as soon as possible if you can. That makes a huge difference in this game. Good interceptions in the DBs and dominent D line is just so huge and makes games more fun. Not having those things leads to one shootout game after another, and you must score almost every drive to stay in a game.

Go to the site for mods. They have modern teams, logos, and endzone art. I played the demo for a long time, but just bought the full version. I like games like Football Manager, Gear City and such, so stratigy and mod games are my favorite. Have fun with it. I do.

Thanks, I am coming from Bowl Bound and played a few hours last night. This is a solid game although I'm sad to say that there are crashing issues with it just like Bowl Bound. There should really be an auto save feature.

Agree completely on the "shootout" nature of the game. I had a 5 star WR go for over 1800 yards in a season and our offensive averaged 34 points a game and we went 5-7. It appears that the B1G in this game is absolutely loaded, wtf? My defense can't even stop Minnesota and Iowa from going for over 30 points.

In three years with Michigan I had the #2, #4 and #3 recruiting classes, loaded with 4-5 star talent all across the board and I never had a better year than 7-6. Somehow we beat OSU 2 of those years despite OSU being undefeated and us coming in with 4-5 losses.

I guess the playcalling and strategy aspect is way more improtant than I realize so I'll have to lok at your tips and reconsider my next playthrough.

Recruiting is really easy, especially if you're coming from bowl bound. Figure out where you have playing time available and try and get the big fish that way. In general, recruit within your region (set it to within 300-500 miles) and only go outside region for high interest guys at positions of need. If guys are under 50 interest don't bother. Immediately pull your resources off them and make new targets. Obviously I was recrutiing with a fairly high prestige team. If you're SW Nautical State adjust your expectations until you build a higher prestige.

Fun game but man it feals like there is more here, if they would spruce up the UI and crashing this game would be a lot more popular IMO.
