I don't know, I've never played sleeping dogs. I don't like to make comparisons , especially when it comes to Shenmue. Shenmue is in a class of its own, its unique in a good way.

Shenmue doesn't compare well to other open world titles. It's less Open WORLD and more like pretty dense and detailed little TOWN. And it's got a much slower pace compared to any other open world game I can think of.

Why do you people keep comparing Shenmue to the same games? Just because they have an Asian connection, it doesn't mean the games are similar.

Sleeping Dogs is more like a combination of GTA and Yakuza. Shenmue 3 is more unique in that regard. If you want to compare it, you could compare those 2 games in regards of the setting, both play in China, while Sleeping Dogs is in Hong Kong and Shenmue 3 plays in a small Village and a small city. Another similarity is the combat system. Sleeping Dogs has a brawler style fighting system + some guns to shoot with. Shenmue has a fighting style that focuses on martial arts, but it plays diffrently in comparission to Sleeping Dogs. No brutal kills, where stick someone's face into a moving fan. On top of that, you could say both are story focussed games, while Sleeping Dogs way more fast paced then Shenmue. In SD you jump from action-sequence to action-sequence, while Shenmue 3 builds up the action sequences slowly.

Not even Wei Shen can touch Lan Di, and Ryo learns more fighting moves and styles than Wei if only the combat system was as great as Sleeping Dogs

Sleeping dogs is a faster paced game. For people who just want things to keep moving.

Yakuza is a bit slower paced. For people who want to do more sight seeing.

Shenmue 3 is the most slow paced. For people who have a lot of time on their hands and want to spend a lot of time getting immersed in the game world.

here is the thing
sleeping dogs inherits the gameplay of jackie chan stunt master from ps1
while yakuza has like 10+ games and they are trying to do better than jackie chan stunt master without respecting him and they fail
about shenmue:
shenmue is more good game than yakuza.
it is morally not rotten unlike yakuza
there is good atmosphere in them and inspection of detail
