What to do with Evolution gems.

SO, i have been searching for something to do with my evolution gem but Other than a Ruins on a floating island, i haven't found anything to do with it. I have tried to interact with the Ruins but it just says the same this about wondering what to do with it?

Open your inventory and click transform to convert a creature (not all work, though, but the common dragon ones do). Also, you can enchant some things with it in the forge. To advance the story line, find a dragon further east (from what I understand the floating island and ruins are a bit far east and up for it) and talk to it.
