First, I will expand on what Gega suggested to add that one can swim in the sea there (not under the island) where single units of Titanium randomly spawn, which can help.
Second, there is an Island to the east after going through the Whirlpool that is a good source of Titanium, Gold, and Diamond, all of which are very nice to have at that point (Diamond and Gold for Money, and soon you will need a lot of Gold for crafting).
Thirdly, there is a hidden cave on the starting Island at about depth 60(?) that is randomized on entry. It spawns a bunch of Golems (grey Golems can also drop Titanium), and has a chest near the bottom that always has 2 Titanium (and respawns each time you enter the cave). I use this to go to Sunset Haven prepared to craft up everything that I need.
There is also the Dragon, which will give you access to most of the world, and most Islands seem to have Titanium.
Thanks a lot to both of you
But just keep selling diamonds and you'll be good to go.. (Gold becomes very important soon.. But you should have plenty of it to mine, and can buy it for normal price too.)
