Lore questions thread
Is the square the whole world, or just a section of it?
Is Polytopia de name of the planet, or just the region?
What are exactly the stars?
Are the mind benders monks?

Lore guy here, let's answer these questions:

1. Probably just a section of it. We really haven't talked about the entirety of the planet.
2. The planet that the Polytopians live on is called "The Square." "Polytopia" really isn't a thing in their world, just sort of a cool name for our benefit.
3. Stars are a representation of resources. Food, gold, money, wood, labor, metal, and everything else that can be used to train soldiers and build structures.
4. They're magic users, but I guess you could liken them to monks.

Also, what exactly is a Mooni?

Mooni are constructs assembled out of bone, cloth, and whatever else and animated with the power of Gaami magic.

They use their antlers to focus moon energy into icy blasts.

Is Gaami a god, or just a spirit?
Zoythrus™  [developer] Aug 13, 2020 @ 2:24pm
Neither. Gaami are extradimensional beings that come from a dimension of permafrost. They're a race of powerful wielders of ice magic, and they bestow that magic to the Polaris to help them freeze the Square.

For the record, no one has actually seen a Gaami. They all sit safely in their home dimension using their magic to animate Mooni and pilot the constructed avatars you see in the game.

I have other questions:
Are aquarion fishmen? If so, why do they need turtles or ships in order to move in the water?
How do tribes build their cities before researching construction?
Why are they called tribes and not empires or civilizations?
Do the tribes hate each other, or are there some sort of alliances/pacts between them?

1. Aquarion are kinda fishmen? What you see on them is a helmet, but they can breathe underwater. Why don't they just swim everywhere? Why don't you just walk everywhere?

2. "Construction" doesn't refer to the "actual ability to build structures" but more "advanced techniques."

3. Because Midjiwan wanted to call them tribes. :P

4. I like to imagine that they're all in a cold war. They all hate each other, but will still interact because it's beneficial at times. I like to assume that when they get into a deal with each other, both sides think "Hehe, we got the better end of that deal, losers...."

This is such an interesting thread.

Some other questions:
When a tribe captures an enemy city, do they kill everyone inside, or do they force them to join them?
When a tribe is annihilated, does that mean it no longer exists? Or only that it was pushed away from the territory?
Do the yaddak trade with other tribes, or only among themselves? Are they friendlier than other tribes? Or are they just a bunch of scammers?

1. They force them to join them. Thankfully, Polytopians are easily swayed.

2. Eradicated, mainly through persuasion and cultural erasure.

3. The Yadakk do trade with other tribes, and are deemed friendlier than the others. They'll still kill you, though.

1. Given how cities are restricted to a single square, do Polytopians' homes actually stack on top of each other? do they have to climb ladders or stairs to get to their houses?
2. If the Yadäkk are considered the nicest tribe, who'd be the meanest? Excluding the Vengir, who have a good reason to be upset most the time.
3. Where do Giants come from? Are they a result of magic?

1. Nah, it's just a representation/abstraction. If you look at our Tribe Moon pictures, you'll see that the towns are spread out.

2. Probably the Luxidoor, they're snobs.

3. Giants are a subspecies of Polytopian. Albeit rare, they're able to be coaxed out of their homes in the wilderness and away from neutrality, and armed to fight for whomever gives them a meal and a warm shelter. :)
