[UE4 - Fatal Error] then crashing to desktop
Is anyone else getting a "UE4 - Fatal Error" message before the game crashes to the desktop? Nothing shows in windows event viewer.

I have verified the local game files and even underclocked my GPU (it was at stock speeds), it also only seems to happen during conversations.

32Gb RAM
Ryzen 7 5800X
Nvidia 1080ti (stock speeds) @165hz 3440 x 1440

I went ahead and zipped up that folder with the crash reports on it and emailed it to you guys and yes immediately after clicking play on Steam or GOG the game goes to a black screen like most games do on startup then a small window pops up in the center of the black screen saying "Fatal Error!" which then closes the game. Ive not been able to get to the main menu or into the game at all.

Thanks for the quick response and hopefully you can tell me whats going wrong on my end so I can fix it and play, been looking forward to seeing what this game and its story is all about!

Hi Omega, thanks for emailing us your crash logs.
It appears your crash is being caused by some software you're running called "Nahimic". We don't know what that is, but your best chance of fixing the crash is to disable this software. We've seen forum reports from other games describing the same problem.

Please do come back and let us know if this fix works for you, so we can confirm a solution for any other users experiencing this issue.

Alright so turns out "Nahimic" is a process or part of the application Realtek Audio Manager in some way and im not sure why or how but as soon as I uninstalled Realtek Audio Manager I can now load up the game with no Fatal Error! I still have my audio to because the Realtek Audio Manager is just a audio manager and not actually the Realtek Audio Drivers so everything looks good for now, ill come back if I run into any other issues but big thanks for the help and quick responses!

Hi there. Sorry to hear about this, and thanks for letting us know.
We've found that other people who have had crashes have been able to fix them by updating the drivers on their GPU. Give that a go first. If that doesn't help, try reinstalling the game. If those steps don't work, come back to us and we'll do our best to help you.

We don't have enough information to speculate at this point, but first try updating your GPU drivers. That has helped others. If that doesn't work, let us know.

Also experienced this with RX 5700 XT, Ryzen 7 3800X, 16 GB RAM. My drivers were version 21.4.1. Just installed 21.6.1, restarted, and lowered some graphic settings. Gonna try again tomorrow.

you could try and run the "UE4PrereqSetup_x64.exe" in "SteamApps\common\The Forgotten City\Engine\Extras\Redist\en-us\"
its no wondercure but it could be not everything was setup correctly.

Sorry to hear that. Were you able to reload and resume or is the crash happening persistently at a particular point? If so, what is it?

No, it was never at a specific point. It happened every time I'd been playing for a couple of hours straight. It wasn't an overheating issue either, so I'm not sure what it was.

Great game btw, enjoyed it a lot

I have no idea if this will help you,but i got this Ue4 fatal error on startup too.
So i did different things that the internet told me to do, nothing helped. Then i started to check my hardware and found out that my displayport was loose (Not tightend as a displayport shall be) in the gfx end, so i switch to another port in my gfx, and the game started with no problems.
Just a tought.

I've had multiple crashes within a few minutes of loading the game. I have the most recent drivers for my GPU and I've tried verifying the game files. I will reinstall the game and report back with what happens.

I tried loading the game as administrator after reinstalling and got another crash within a couple of minutes.

Really sorry to hear about this. If you'd like us to troubleshoot further, please provide us with details of your CPU, GPU, GPU Driver version, RAM, OS details. However, while we can look into it, we can't guarantee we'll be able to fix your issue, unfortunately.

Intel Core i7-7700 3.60GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti
GeForce Game Ready v 471.68

Tested the game again today with new driver update and was able to complete the first conversation with Sentius before the game crashed.

An update - I ran tests using OCCT and found that two of my cores were throwing errors after about 10 to 20 minutes of torture testing - I have reduced the undervolt on these two cores in the motherboard PBO curve manager and so far so good, was able to play for an hour with no crash (was crashing every 5 to 10 minutes before). Will play more tomorrow and feedback further.
