I have played this and Outer Wilds, any similar games? Is the original mod worth trying?

Many mention Return of the Obra Dinn as similar. It is a bit more technical / detective based though.

This might sound silly but I'd honestly recommend Heaven's Vault if you like this.

It's very much a mystery about "just what the hell happened and is going to happen in the future?" kind of game, where the player interacts with a language mechanic and more is unlocked with each playthrough loop, adding to a sort of dictionary of words the character and player learn.

Not looping games but The Witness and The Talos Principle have similar vibes.

They're a lot more hardcore on the puzzle element though.

Agreed.
The Talos Principle went heavy on the ancient aesthetics as well as the puzzles, but less city/townscape and more as a backdrop.

I'd mention that The Talos Principle has a reputation for giving people motion sickness despite having settings to attempt to minimize that.

I didn't care for Outer Wilds...I just couldn't absorb it, and I'm curious if my dislike of Outer Wilds is any indication that I wouldn't like The Forgotten City. It's currently on sale and the concept has piqued my interest, plus the store page compared it to Witcher 3 and Terminator: Resistance in terms of games I own and like.

Those games aren't similar haha. The Forgotten City is different enough from Outer Wilds that you might like it, and it is more guided than Outer Wilds. Most of the game will involve having conversations with NPCs with a few longer dungeon crawl style quests and a decent amount on light puzzle solving.

As many suggested and I have played almost all:
- The Sexy Brutal is almost the closest
- Return of the Obra Dinn but it is more like the after math
- The Rewinder (AKA the Chinese version of this. Small village and you solve/help the residents and see the actual changes slowly to a climax ending. Devs will release new DLC in the near future.).
- Firework (Another Chinese "Horror" although it is more like linear sad story rather than a game).
- Twelve Minute, I didn't play but rather watched and never enjoyed it personally.
- The Talos Principle (I dropped it, you solve a puzzle and then rewarded with readings made it boring to me after it repeated multiple times).:steamsad:

Thanks for the input - it sounds like I might really like this game. I figured the Steam store comparison to Witcher 3 and Terminator: Resistance (based on my playtime in those) is based on the setting and the time loop element, respectively, and not because of any gameplay similarities (save for the branching dialogue and decision-based narrative).

https://store.steampowered.com/app/512890/Elsinore/ is another time-loop game where the puzzles are about talking to people and using what you learn on future loops.
