The idea sounds creative and intriguing, and apparently the mod was well received.

It is more of a rogue-light with a groundhog day premise? More of a 'choose your own adventure'? More of a visual novel with some combat? Puzzle game? Adventure?

Trying to get a little more feel for whether I think I'd like it.

It sounds like, 'make some story choices, see different endings, and some puzzles at exploiting the time loop'.

Not a rogue-lite, nor a choose your own adventure. Think of it more like a very talky adventure game with an investigation element. There's lots of dialogue, plenty of exploration, and yes, some combat. Not many puzzles, but there are technically a few, as there are multiple ways to accomplish certain tasks.

Out of your examples I'd say it most closely resembles a visual novel. The game is to be played purely for the story which I've seen highly praised for years now.

It may have evolved from a mod for an action RPG, but like the mod, this game is in a totally different genre. It’s a mystery adventure game, which rewards thoughtful conversation, exploration, and puzzle-solving. Combat is a small – and entirely optional – part of the game. If you don’t go into this expecting a Triple-A action RPG, you’ll have a much better time!

I mostly wonder how the gameplay is, is there are open world with dungeons and quests?
