Why NM? I'm at the same point in the Game, and can't figure it out either. I waited, and I rested, and nothing seems to happen?

Update: Walked back to the Wizard to complain (and re-read the quest text), and went back to the tree afterwards, and then the quest resolved. Still no Idea what exactly triggers it though.
