Not sure what it does with every other possibility but I rarely use it myself. Some players I have signed asked for certain clauses in their contracts before, and some of these were either semi or non negotiable.
EG - Player wants a wage rise from 1k p/w and thinks it should be 1.5K +, so wage window goes yellow letting you adjust the value. If you go too low, the player will simply refuse the offer completely. You move it to 1.4, he says no, but asks for 1.6. You move it to 1.5, and he accepts.
