I know you can change the stat page to the diamond grapg thing they have, if that's your thing.
I especially dislike being able to see the potentially of youth players. Again it just makes the whole decision making process of who to buy/sell/train/develop redundant for me.
It feels both good to know that users are modding this in, but also a shame that you're not.
I'm sure that the user mods will help some players, but it begs the question to me of why isn't there just an option to turn this off if there's a user demand for it. I know that you can't please everyone, but options in a game are always a good way to appeal to a wider audience imho.
I've never used any workshop options for games in the past, it's probably a lot easier than I imagine, but the thought of having to do this puts me off. I prefer a game that I can just pick up and play.
I do appreciate you getting back to me, but as it stands I'm not going to purchase again. Thanks for your time.
I'll have a tinker when the demo comes out, because it is a fair suggestion, it's still not what I'm really looking for as compared to a menu option that would let me turn the star ratings off wholesale, but I'm going to be pleasently surprised if you can turn them all off on a screen by screen basis.
But never say never!
For what it's worth, and I know that this is just anecdotal, but I've spoken with a few people who used to play the older versions of the game before the star system was introduced, and we all generally agree that we enjoyed the process of figuring out who our star players were for ourselves.
I think the contrast between these 2 let's play videos demonstrates what I'm getting at.
In 2009, we've got a guy who knows his club, buying in players that he knows of from other teams and making his own mind up about which players to play and who to put in the reserves https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHmE7Jzci70&list=PLUH4WLwK5MXO6cNkr9evLyKYn8RgtHMOU
In 2018 we'vv got a reading a team analysis and instantly knowing who his star player is. and that he's injury prone, and so on. All his talk is about, this play is x star, and this player is a y star. He's signing players based on scout reports, and potential star ratings. Also his knowledge is based on what he's reading on the screen. 'this guy is a ball winning midfielder' he hasn't analysed or interpreted that. The game just tells him... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KidTXFp2OcQ&list=PLD1d_2sG-oUm1o_pU-NcAWoajRY8CWgIh
But, by the same token, there's then extra layers which have been added in order to make it more complex again; press conferences, team talks, player relationships.
I'm not trying to say that I was great at the game btw, this isn't a snobbery request. More that I enjoyed managing a team such as Charlton Athletic through years of mid-table obscurity whilst I learnt about my squad and then finally... finally, (if I hadn't been sacked), taking that team, which I'd dripped seasons of blood and sweat into, into the playoffs for a shot at the big time.
Whereas with the star system it feels like I'm just going to be reading and responding to coach and scout reports, and auto clicking the game forward. I can't stand the press conferences and team talks, which is a different topic, and I do know that these can left to the assistant, but what am I actually left doing?
It's the same with training ''Nii Lamptey would benefit from shooting more from distance'' hmm, well I best tell him to shoot more from distance then. It'd be far more enjoyable imho to pick up that a player hits screamers from outside the box by checking his stats and/or watching/listening to the in game commentary describing his ability to do that, than it is to respond to a series of inbox messages.
I used to play CM/FM games every year, it was the one game where I'd be waiting for release day so I could pick up the next version. But since I think about FM 2009, and then FM2011, (I missed 2010 because my FM 2009 career went on that long) I've looked around at the demo each season, played pre-season and a couple of matches and then lost interest and uninstalled.
So I agree, and I can see totally why a game would want to appeal to its new players. But FM has also got a whole heap of experienced players ouot there. Having the option to take the stars out of the game would be, potentially, a way of bringing those players back from the cold as well.
