The areas you went in were mostly dull with a weird layout, the combat was exceptionally easy except for the super buffed bosses, and the story was horribly boring....
Completely agree.
there is literally no reason for a digimon game to not be a visual novel.
It was made to be different genre, generic or not.
And given how well this game gets what made the Digimon anime great I'd say there are plenty of very good reasons for Digimon VNs to exist.
Always remember: sometimes things are simply not made for you.
