Carnage Heart?
I just found out not that long ago about a PSX game called Carnage Heart which is over 20 years old, now. I thought, "wow, this game could sure use a modern remake," and lo and behold I see this in the Upcoming queue. Were you at all inspired by CH?

Hey @Kolbex!
Yep, Carnage Heart is definitely among the main references I found when starting this project.
Gladiabots focuses more on the "high level" strategy than the micro-management of the different parts of your robots though.
It's AI system has also way less spatial constraints as you are not restricted to a grid like in CH.

As a kid, I used to play a LOT of RobotWar by Silas Warner. I also was a big fan of "Omega" by Origin Systems.

They actually had 3 series, Carnage Heart (PS,PSP), Carnage Heart, Zeus II: Carnage Heart(PC,PS) and Carnage Heart EXA (PSP) . However I like the SLG element in the 2nd series better, it allows you to control mothership to join the battle as well.

I would pay a LARGE amount for a re-work of Omega. Omega gameplay blows this away.

I played Carnage Heart EXA a few years back and it was excellent!
