At the end of the day, though, if something gives your kid nightmares, it's within your parental rights to take the nightmare-inducing material until they're ready to handle it. It's entirely possible to do that without shaming your child for taking a risk in the first place or blaming the game dev/author/movie director.
Thanks so much for that, and you said it. Depicting a topic candidly is not at all the same as glorifying it. Some of my friends' parents back in the day didn't allow them to read Judy Blume novels because several of them involved teenagers going all the way. Indeed they did, but they also depicted the topic realistically, including the heartbreak and negative outcomes that can sometimes result. I'm sure I'm not the only former teen who read the books and "noped" their way right into waiting for marriage. There were also memorable YA books about gangs (S.E. Hinton) and hate groups (The Wave) that had a similar "nope effect."

Are you kidding me?
Anyone who thinks this is appropriate for children is delusional. Sick, disturbing back story , why are people allowing their kids to even play this crap?

Not in my house
When my son first became interested in this game I was a little uneasy..He never played always watched others on You Tube.He mentioned how the creator was a Christian after I mentioned my disapproval. It turns out the creator,Scott Cawthon..denounced God after several failures of Christian video games.Somehow,he came up with the FNAF concept and became hugely successful! It takes a twisted psyche to dream up a kids video game of a child murderer luring kids into a backroom at a Chucky Cheese type establishment!!!People on You Tube are making ever increasingly bizarre fan videos related to murder and brutality. My son went from being terrified of the game and it's violence to having dreams of kids being stabbed to death..Trust me..The posters, the building sets, the You Tube subscriptions are GONE ! Research this game, watch some of the fan videos..Those alone will scare the living tar out of you.

Concerned Parent
My son who is 6 years old has been tormented by the images he saw on this game. A friend of him lured him into watching it at camp. He has not been the same since. He's never ever been afraid of the dark or had nightmares and now he won't sleep in his own room and wakes up in the middle of the night a couple of times per night. He can't stand to be alone in any room at home. This game really impacted him in a bad way and I would not recommend it to anyone under the age of 13. Unless they are accustomed to and like horror-type games. I have tried to explain to him that those characters were not real and that it was all a game but, so far it hasn't convinced him. I'm hoping that he will soon forget the images that he saw on this game so he can be the happy-go-lucky kid that he has always been. As a parent, I would highly recommend that you watch or play the game first, to see if it's something that your child could handle. I'm sorry that I didn't have the opportunity or was aware of the impact this would have on my son.

Don't play it, let alone your children!
This game is pure evil. My eight year old isn't allowed to play it but has watched the game play online as many gamers like to record their playing of the game and upload it to youtube. My son has Roblox and this game is on Roblox in many different variations as well as many other horror movie based games. Although it is animated, the sound effects, music and "killings" within these games are disturbing. You may not thing something that looks like a cartoon would be bothersome but a child's imagination sees this differently. My son has become increasingly fearful and won't even go into his bedroom or the bathroom without having someone with him. Whenever he has watched this or heard about it, he doesn't sleep well, waking 3-5 times during the night causing my husband and I to not get rest as well. As I tell my children often, once it is in your head, you can't get it out. Once you have seen it, it cannot be unseen.

Seriously Parents!!!! Not okay for kids!
The whole premise of this game is about murder. My kids learned about this terrible game after watching other kids playing on their devices at a summer karate camp. I was very disappointed to find out that instead of learning karate moves & discipline, kids were allowed to play video games all day...and FNAF’s is the worst!! I wonder if parents are even monitoring what their kids are viewing/hearing/playing. My kids watched an 8 year old playing this game and they both ended up sleeping in our bed that night. You cannot unsee things.....once they are in your head, they are there for good. Please monitor what your kids are doing. This is completely NOT appropriate for kids.

How is this a game for children?
I was walking through the toy isle at the store when my four year old started hysterically screaming and crying in complete terror - his face instantly turned red and his entire body began shaking. I had no idea what happened, I walked out of the isle and it took several minutes for him to gather himself to be able to tell me what happened. He saw one of these toys. He tried explaining to me what he saw, but i was completely uneducated on this game. My 12 year old niece was with us and she happened to be familiar with the game, she realized what he was talking about and said it was really scary. My son got so upset again, crying, and he said he was going to puke - he begged for us to stop talking about it when she only told me it was a game. Later on I was warning my mom about the incident and to avoid the toy isle if she had him, my son reacted the same way. This game is obviously traumatic and I don’t understand why it is even allowed in the toy isle where small children go, but I don’t understand a lot of the values of today’s society either.

Psychologically Disturbing
The backstory involving the murder of small children whose bodies get stuffed into animatronic animals is in itself enough to warrant the notion of this game being entirely inappropriate for children. People say that just because there is no blood or gore, it's not as bad as other, more physically violent games. As a psychologist, I disagree. Psychologically unsettling material such as this, which includes themes of being trapped and surrounded by danger, normalizing child murder, and the idea that such terrifying things as homicidal, gruesome-looking animatronics could be real (children have a very poor sense of "real" vs "pretend" especially when they are young; see Santa Claus and monsters under the bed) are mentally and emotionally damaging to children. I am an adult and have never played the game. Just walking past the merchandise in stores makes me uneasy and uncomfortable. I would never permit my child to play such a game, regardless of whether or not they personally considered it to be "scary".

REALLY???
As a parent or non-parent, there is no reason for a child to be playing a game that is neither a game or play. The nature and story of this game is obscene and violent. Death is not a joke. Killing is not play. Violence is not entertainment whether you are wearing a clown suit or rabbit ears. If your child is looking to play a game of this nature, check out the plot, the premise, the purpose and intentions of the game. It is much more easier to train a child than it is to repair an adult. These games are in no way edifying, uplifting or instructional. And we ask ourselves...."what is wrong in the world?" What is happening in your home? There is great meaning in that old old song, "be careful little eyes what you see, be careful little ears what you hear!"
