Also, when the FNaF1 "Mike was the killer" theory was popular, part of that theory held that Mike was seeing the hallucination of Freddy Fazbear with his own eyes in the sockets. Per this theory, the hallucination was an "It's Me" reminder that he'd used an animatronic to kill the kids and was now trapped in his old workplace/scene of the crime.
