Yeah, this mission is quite different. If you follow the objectives and listen to what CC is telling, you should be able to finish it.
Scout > Take the hill > Hold the hill > Evacuate Echo or Bravo from the designated LZ >
Accept the losses
It is now midnight (have been operating according to the instructions all day).
I took and held the Hill with Echo, Bravo was back at LZ, Alpha scouted all around and is now back near the Village. A few combats have been fought (lost 4 men and had 6 wounded). All have been transported back to base using Green One. What do I do next?
It seems I have not yet found a crucial trigger?
Where to evacuate the units, the Base or the Village? I have dropped all of them off at the base but mission will not end.
I tried evacuating both Echo and Bravo from LZ to the Base but nothing happens. Now all units are sitting at the base and Green One is refueled and ready to go...
For how long must Echo hold the Hill? Thru the whole night and into the next day? Do we have to eliminate a certain enemy unit?
It was a tough one, more of a figuring out how to follow the intended path, than actually keeping control of the area. In hindsight, it was a very good scenario, but very hard to go thru since there are so many pitfalls where the manuscript sets you off on a never ending story.
Thanks for this "special" one, took me all night to figure out :) It feels like now when I know what to do, I will enjoy the mission more a second time (not feeling so blind as in the first go).
I had a tough time figuring this one out as well.
When you have sent Echo to the LZ you have to:
Load Echo onto the choppers and send them to base. Once they unload at the base the mission continues with you being able to retrieve Alpha.
Being LOW on AMMO, I had them STAY at LZ, as Kovacks said they'd be OK to go later.
I didn't want to send Bravo back, while being UNABLE to resupply from the evac helos.
AHHH!!! the RED button command! stay at LZ OR return to hill and Alpha.
There is so much importance to the SCRIPT.
For me, Alpha was reporting being tired from walking up the hill then eventually started reporting that they "can't move in this state." The message was so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ unclear as to why they couldn't suddenly move. Took me a few attempts to assume this was scripted cause I thought they were too tired and needed to rest or something so I could move them off the hill eventually.
Of course, this happens BEFORE the mission dialogue about how Alpha can stay behind so you have literally no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idea why this happens to your squad at first, and it ♥♥♥♥♥ your entire planning for the rest of the mission.
From my experience, it is not caused by loading a save, though there are some oddities when I do so.
Here are two bugs (one can be bypassed, the other is critical) :
1) The LZ waypoint on a hill (near the end) is a spot where the helo cannot land, sigh.
That was bloody annoying and I thought my play for this mission was screwed, but by moving Echo and Green (helo) a tiny bit north (sort of middle of the big arrow), the helo could land. Easy bug to fix.
2) Somehow, After loading Echo on the helo, and ordering Bravo do evacuate also, a critical bug occured where all units no longer responded and I could pass time forever without effect. I think the helo somehow picked up both Echo and Bravo, which is technically not possible.
I did Quit and then Continue and instead asked Bravo to move to try and reach Alpha. I evacuated Echo normally.
nb: there are other minor bugs with the game, but I will ignore them here.
