Beta Career. Cars early feedbacks
Hello,

Trying the Career mode in Beta, i went with the cars instead of the rockets.

The first time, i took the bottom ramp position, and the car is unable to drive up the ramp, after a while it simply stops. I must drive in Z shapes to counter the ramp, but then i’m out of fuel, and can never reach the top. Back to the garage.

I then tried to start at the top position, and i could drive down and "jump" to my death. Back to the garage.

Now i’m trying the next few missions, but i don’t see how it’s possible to achieve anything with the starting car, and the same modele but bigger fuel. It’s very slow, cannot drive up a small hill, and i just "lose", must go back to the garage, but to build what ? I don’t have anything like a motor etc.

What is expected way to play this mode ? What did i missunderstand ?

Thanks

the car uses a battery not fuel, so that fuel is just extra useless weight. I did rockets first and did that contract by strapping a srb motor to the back of it tho so.

You might need more weight to get extra traction.

You can turn the empty fuel tank into a battery and add dead weight to it, this helped me in a mission so after the one you're talkin' about

you may also have to increase your gear ratio, so you will have more torque

Make the wheels smaller diameter, put them lower on the car body (so they are sort-of under the body, instead of on the side), and then rotate them so they are still parallel with the ground.

Everything about my car... speed, acceleration, ability to climb hills... got better with that.

THIS!!! I tried the Stock car and it didn't even make it 10 feet up the side of the mountain. Increased the gear ratio to the max (slider all the way to the right on all wheels) and bam it climbed the mountain even faster then a drood walking it! It now says to do exactly this in the contract and it works!

Still not working on mine, and isn't supposed to be 150 meters? Mine says ~600 meters and I can't get it to complete now.

150 meters is the jump (off the end of the runway). Unless the climb up is also 150 meters.

I also changed the main body of the car to be a battery. I was also intending on completing the endurance contract at the same time. Didn't think it was necessary for climbing the mountain BUT maybe you're running out of power?

Only other thing i can think of is if you're playing on Mobile. Some players on mobile have seen odd bugs that I have not on PC. Also some of the updates they've made to RC car parts might not of made it too mobile yet.

Well I be damned! You were right I took the stock craft and just changed the gear ratio and gotta whole lot of nothing from it! But when I make the main fuselage a battery ….. it climbs that mountain like a charm! Must need that all that extra power with the higher gear ratios.

The first tutorial makes you assign pitch controls to the rear wheel RPM. So if you decide the add drive to the front wheel (for better traction), make sure to assign the front wheel RPM control to pitch/ same as the rear wheel, as by default the RPM control is on throttle

Maybe I am not getting something but I sidewind up the ramp using the tutorial craft and get to the top. I go all the way down and launch off the edge of the runway at the bottom and horribly crash and fail... I thought I was doing what was asked. What am I missing here?

The jump mission? I load from Juno runway so you start at the top (no need to sidewind up anthing) maybe you fail if start from the bottom.

Yes the Jump mission/contract. I start at the top and go full speed off the edge and always fail... not sure what I am doing wrong.

i found that the career mode is ok but the contracts require some thought got stuck for ages trying to get on top of the hill. where I ended up sticking electric motors on the wheels to get that power. then had some flying missions and having to glide 10 checkpoints the tutorial vehicle just isnt made for that. Wheels often get inverted and go the incorrect way, tried making a propeller system which sort of worked.
Looking at the tech tree, its not helpful with stuff thrown in all over the place, the slider to make something a dead weight didn't work
The career mode is a good start but needs feedback and work on it to make it fun. for myself it got frustrating, then boring quick when controls started getting wonky and something like a propeller is not even in the game when it should be.
it has potential but not quite ksp killer considering ksp 2 will be coming out in the near future.

1. For the hill section, upping the gear ratio and reducing the tire size can help a lot or at least for me it did.

2. Dead weight isn't unlocked until later and I honestly don't see why the tech tree would necessarily be worse than KSP though perhaps some path indicators could work.

3. They are currently adding a propeller in the next update if I am correct. You can view the roadmap here: https://www.simplerockets.com/Feedback/Roadmap

I tried the gear ratios but that didn't work for me. maybe i need to approach it with a fresh mind rather that after a 12 hour shift :D I dont feel the tech tree is worse just that maybe somethings need to be rearranged a bit

thanks for that advise will look into it a bit more :D
