When do the guns come?

Just wanted to check, I've just obtained the toy car, and I've noticed that I've got ALOT of pistol ammo. Is this normal? I'm just wondering if I missed picking up the pistol or something. So far I've been killing everything with my hammer, but I die alot, cause timing 3 monsters at the same time is kind of hard. Thanks for any tips.
