It works for me but im sure others have other ways of doing things.
Even later with storage rooms I always keep storage space in my kitchens. And like Stephen I try to have the most used ingredients on them.

To do this you have to set shelves to only hold 3-4 item types.
Btw, do you really create a kitchen or do you just put the cooking utensils in a part of the bar room? I am unsure now. Shorter paths, fewer places to clean, the fancy bonus on some of the kitchen utilities would not be wasted.
Is there a reason for a kitchen room?
Kinda like you would set up a real one where all the employee stuff is "in the back."
Firstly if you don't tick on the option to build everything in every room than you must build a kitchen to all the kitchen related items as you can't place them in any other room. With this option ticked on, which is recommended as the game is still buggy in that it won't allow you to place items in their appropriate rooms for whatever reason, a kitchen isn't necessary per se but many kitchen items actually have negative fancy so you'd rather keep them away from the main hall. Whether it's a kitchen, storage room or whatever else doesn't really matter too much.
