Seating not right, so customers has no place to sit.
Counter is not placed right, might be too close to a wall preventing access
Menu not set up, or missing ingredients, or missing a storage or a prep station
Employees might not be set up to do the right jobs. No one set up to wait tables, or for innkeeping.
Maybe you neglected to open you inn.
Perhaps if you could provide some further info or add some screen shots, it might help narrow down the problem
I have over 40 hours in the game. Pretty sure I know how to play. This is the first time I have had an issue with people not getting served.
1. Everyone is sitting in a chair. Orders are taken and not being served
2. Counter has plenty of space behind it
3. I have a menu set up to serve Lager
4. I have set the priorities for each server to Serve Guest as the highest priority, then gossip then cleaning. They are are working speedily first, then quality.
5. If people are sitting at my tables then I obviously have the inn open.
any other questions?
I'd like to know more about how this task list works.
For example, 'room services'. This task is not part of my drudge force task list. This task involves making the beds (I assume) since preparing the rooms for guests should normally include making the bed. Yet, just now ~half of my drudge force were making the beds.
Mind, I'm not complaining, since the servants weren't getting the beds done I'm glad someone got around to it ... but still, if bed making isn't part of 'room services' then what task do they fall under?
As someone who is somewhat of a micromanager when it comes to sim games, I want to know these things so I can understand how to better command my staff!
And another thing - the status' of employees. They slept in a regular townsfolk quality bed ... so why did they sleep poorly? Huh? Huh? Why? Huh? Do they need a better bed? Do they need a worse (distressed level) bed? Does the level of employee affect the quality of their desired bed? Does have other things in the room like lighting, a wash basin, mirror, other employees playing darts (noisy, might interrupt their sleep) affect their quality of sleep? Apart from avoiding the negative status from sleeping, is it possible to achieve a positive status? And why can't I put them on a sleep schedule so they don't all want to go down at the same time? JUST HOW DOES THIS WHOLE SLEEP THING WORK!???
Task definitions and status' details. I'd like a whole lot more information about the both of them.
Edit: ...and yes, I'm aware of the 'comfy' stat. I'm on the second campaign level. The available beds goes from the slightly uncomfortable -1 comfy level 250c 'quite a bed' straight to the 1500c 'vedeta: the royal' of +3 comfy level. No options in between. I've just now placed the expensive vedeta in the staff room ... I'll see how things turn out.
i'm pretty sure that "slept poorly" is a random chance, with a modifier based on bed comfort. it would be harder programming to have other things going on in the room affect sleep quality, so i highly doubt dart play has any effect. you'll find more beds eventually, either from completing quests, or from developing trade routes and improving relations with towns.
As for putting them on a sleep schedule: if you have a number of beds totaling 1/3 the workers, your people will fall into a sort of defacto sleep schedule. if you want to get more involved, you can unlock work shifts for your employees, where you can decide when breaks are and therefore when sleeping would likely occur. of course, your workers decide whether they sleep or spend the night playing darts, but good employees ought to make good life choices overall.
if you have lager on the menu but it isn't selling, try premaking some lager. if it just sits in your bar counter untouched for more than a day, try lowering prices. if the prices are in the extra happy bracket, then price shouldn't be limiting consumption...
I have always said that this game can use some better in game help. A lot of what it does is not intuitive or not explained well. There are tool tips for the various skills you can view by hovering over the question mark next to each skill name, but even these are not very clear.
That said, this is the list, as best as I can make out.
For servers
Cleaning, says cleaning dirty objects and throwing away garbage. I also believe it involves making beds.
Waiting tables, says taking orders from guests, serving drinks and food.
Room Services, says preparing rooms for guests. I believe this only means they will rent rooms.
Gossip. Collects gossip.
Innkeeping. Says preparing drinks and food. It also says renting beds, So maybe conflicts with room service. I am not entirely sure. What I do know is the preparing drinks and food is its most critical aspect and also why kitchen staff also has this skill.
For Drudges
Carrying, says carrying goods to and from storage.
Carpentry, says fixing and building new objects
Farming, says taking care of plants and animals
Cleaning, same as above
kitchen work, says help in the kitchen. I believe this only really includes washing dishes, and maybe fueling stoves.
Manual work, is cleaning of debris.
For kitchen staff
Cooking, says preparing food for guests. What it really does is only prepare food with 4 ingredients.
Artisan, says crafting food and products. What it really means is just crafting. ANY crafting. So its brewing beer, making sausage, making bread, making candles, basically using any item that creates something new.
Kitchen work, same as above.
Innkeeping, same as above.
For thugs
Watch, says observing guests and stopping fights
Patrol, says walking around looking for threats.
Carrying and gossip as above.
As for the whole innkeeping room service overlap. I do believe they do similar jobs, renting rooms, with the big difference innkeeping also prepares food and drink. I think this is intended. If you want your servers to just be able to rent rooms but not get tied up in the kitchen, set them for room service. If you are lacking staff and need your servers to fill several rolls, select innkeeping. Although to be fair, ive not actually tested this to confirm it. For myself, I keep my servers with medium innkeeping, just in case the kitchen staff cant keep up, and low room service and everything seems to run just fine that way.
I actually think it falls under carrying. Because I often see my thugs refilling lamps and candles, thugs do not get manual work, but they do get carrying.
Or both, like the bed making.
In a similar vein check your mugs and plates. Either you ran out because they broke or they aren't circulating properly. This also happened to me when I bought a new dishwasher and forgot to set its storage to nothing and than found out there wasn't enough room on the only shelf I designated to hold dirty dishes and plates so they were all sitting inside the dishwasher not being cleaned and so the guests couldn't eat nor drink.
