Dev's comment:
I've bought this on GOG with 50% discount before updating to Anniversary to grab all paid DLC from Season Pass 1 free) After upgrading to Anniversary Edition game simply did not start on my Win 7. Other people said that game did not run on their Win 8.1 with the same error.
Looks like, devs just do not test their major releases(!) on all OS, which are expected to be supported.
Even Microsoft no longer supports Windows 7 and 8 (extended support for Windows 8.1 until Jan 20, 2023, that means only security updates no functional updates). Developers, especially the smaller ones, usually can't waste resources on dead OS support. I loved Win 7 and hated to see it go, but I saw the writing on the wall. This game was released when Win 7 was already in extended support.
- devs declared these OS as supported;
- they did not check working on these OS before release;
- they are working on fix at this moment.
If I had known about cancelling support of Win 7, I would not have bought this game.
That may be true, but GOG is usually pretty good about getting patches out. You can't use a Steam patch on GOG or vice versa. The good thing about GOG is you own the installer. If you delete your Steam account (why would anyone) your games are history. It's all a matter of preference. I got a patch on GOG for Crossroads this morning, I believe it was the second since the AE version came out.
