System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster

System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster

for those who are wondering what this remaster offers
the 25th anniversary edition of this game includes these features:
-) ported to kex engine for better support on modern systems
-) built in mod manager
-) several fan favourite community mods bundled in (can be disabled)
-) remastered visuals and an overhauled animation system (can be disabled)
-) p2p coop support that is significantly easier to get running than the og
-) full controller support in addition to console ports

if you backed the system shock remake on kickstarter or preordered in on steam, gog, and i think humble counts too, then you are entitled to a free copy of this remaster, which will be made available to you upon release. existing owners of shock 2 will not be grandfathered into this version, but you get to keep the old one

if you already own base system shock 2 and these features arent enticing to you, then you dont need to buy it, the old game will continue to exist and be purchasable. but i would personally recommend new players try out the new version over the old one unless they really want the pure vanilla experience

some questions ive been unable to find answers too but will update this post as i get info on them:
-) vr support completely canned or is it planned for a post launch patch or standalone release later? cancelled at the moment, performance of this port will determine if development is restarted
-) will future buyers of the remaster recieve the original game alongside it as is the case with ss1 enhanced edition?
-) is gamepad support on pc exclusively through native controller support or is there heavy integration with the steam input api?

The VR version was canceled, they're going to wait to see how the remaster is received before they decide whether or not to restart development.

I'd really love to see them fix the ending. My understanding is that the ending is so weird and nonsensical because they outsourced the CGI to another company who didn't follow their instructions.

I'd love to see the ending remade to reflect the originally intended design.

I wonder how the chances are that Nightdive does a SS3 one day. They did a great job with the SS remake (for me), so, they'd be pretty much predestined to do it.

I'd prefer an SS2 remake and then perhaps an SS3 - They can certainly pull it off given the fantastic work they did with SS1 remake.
The thing was fantastic, looking forward to more remasters

Do you know what the fan fav mods that are bundled in are? Specifically, anything related to weapon stats?

Vurt's Space Textures, Flora, Hi-res Water, Organics/Goo
ACC's Four Hundred (400) Hi-res Terrain Textures
Eldron's Psi Amp
Olfred's fixed objects
Grosnus' Hi-Res Spinning Marine/Navy/OSA logos
SCP
SHTUP
ZylonBane's New Quest Notifier
Vaxquis Vintage Song Remake v1.0 Mod
Mercurius' Tacticool Weapon Replacements

so nothing stat changing, but again the game will include a modmenu and i believe support for legacy mods as well
Where did they say that remastered visuals could be disabled?

theyre implemented as mods in the mod loader gui, so they can be disabled. i dont have an exact quote but im in their discord and it has been confirmed a few times
I have bought this game 3 different times over the years. Original boxed CD, then on GoG when they got it, then again here on Steam when it finally came here. I do this to essentially vote with my dollars. I love this game and I want more games like it. The more successful this game sells, the more likely we get more like it.

As at least one other person in this thread has mentioned, I want SS3 and if buying this helps that happen in any manner, im in.
I will be buying this version.

I want my German dub, so I'll buy the remaster too. :trilogo:

SS3 is in a legal hell, last I heard. Tencent inherited the rights to develop SS3 when they absorbed Otherside Entertainment. But their products were recently made illegal in the USA, because of their affiliation with the CCP. Legally, NightDive can revoke the rights to the IP. But it remains questionable whether Tencent will respect that. They have access to a lot more money than NightDive does. Last I heard was that NightDive was looking into their options regarding it. And that Tencent's plans were for SS3 to be mobile only.
