grappling hook bug

For some reason the grappling hook ability only activates on occasion. Sometimes my avatar refuses to throw the hook and I cannot progress.

Are you aware that you can only throw the grapple on specific spots of the level? Are you using any other software that could be potentially intefering with the controls?

1) Yes. I am trying to activate the grapple once the respective hooks are highlighted by the game.
2) No. I am not using any software that might be interfering with my controls.

Even if you restart from checkpoint, because these 2 grappling points are one-after-the-other, we can't proceed. I was able to get it to work only once, but now I'm stuck, and unable to finish the level even after uninstalling, connecting a different controller, using keyboard and mouse, etc.

We have tried to reproduce the problem to no avail, we have tried all sortd of settings for input but most probably there is a third party software interfering in the mix which is wsy harder to spot, we are using the standard Unreal input procedures and as far as ee know they havent aknowledged this bug either. All we can say by now is to try to remove resident drivers and to play with a standard controller, which probably you are already :(

I'm having exactly the same problem and am stuck at exactly the same point. It seems that I can only use the grappling hook once per "life." On subsequent uses, I hear a click, but it doesn't deploy. Resetting to checkpoint resolves the issue and allowed me to get this far, but this point is unpassable due to the need to use the hook twice in rapid succession.

For what it's worth, I'm playing local coop using two Xbox controllers with Steam Play for Linux.

Some updates: I tried in single player, with and without a gamepad. Same problem every time. I also tried installing the game on a Windows 10 machine, and still encountered the same problem there (using the save game from my Steam cloud). Seems like this cannot be a platform or hardware specific problem. Would it help if I shared my save files with you?

Another strange thing, that may or may not be related: for some reason, the achievements for playing in coop and completing the first two levels didn't unlock when they should have. Then, a day later, they all popped up at once when I started the game.

In any case, any help would be greatly appreciated; my wife and I are really enjoying the game and are disappointed to be stuck like this!

They updated the game on January 2022 and it was fixed for me

Same problem for me. Grapple stops working - just a click, the man grabs the grapple but doesn't throw it, even when the target is lit up. Sometimes I can die and it starts working again, but that doesn't solve the problem if I need the grapple twice in succession in a section.
I'm using a Microsoft controller, in wired mode, on Win10. (One thing I noticed: if I disconnect the controller, it says 'Player 2 controller disconnected' - why player 2? )
