Sequel? *potential spoilers*
I would like to know if the game is gonna have a sequel? The story feels very unfinished and the ending feels like a start of a new era for Howard, i legit thought that he is gonna from an absolute underdog to a society changing symbol. The plot with Renee as well, like i want to continue their romance and her vision of revolution. Like what is this, we paid 20$ for "8 hours long" artistic piece, but we've got 3 hours long basically cut half-way through story. I really hope they will expand the lore and story, if not it will be really missed opportunity. + it disappoints the fans as well, at least i feel disappointed, the story and audio-visuals are topnotch, but i want more of it, not this open-ended something.

Okay so yesterday they announced on twitter (and here) "more to come for the world of Backbone"

Maybe the dev that talked to me is just hired help and not an in house writer?

I guess I'm glad they make more, and I hope they can rectify the mess of their first outing. But I definitely won't be buying it at release. The dev's have proved they have no idea what they are doing.

Howard exploded dude, there is no new era.

@OceanMan - I'm still wondering if the game's title is referring to the spinal column we see the rich people eating from, or the last few moments of the game when Howard's spine becomes visible atop the gory mess that was once a raccoon.

I was hoping for this, but after engaging with someone on twitter about it, a dev responded to me saying that there was no sequel planned. Saying "thats not how writing works" lolol.

@VenomRaven - well, it's not how writing works if you're Rian Johnson... -:/

I'm all for depressing endings to stories that show how hard it is to change an entire system, but this game's story was all over the place. There were two distinct plot threads, neither of which were properly explored. I'm not even sure how they're related. None of the characters had any kind of proper conclusion one way or the other, not even our protagonist.

He did not explode, you dont actually see him dying, you just see he drops to the ground and the tumor evolves, thus the name "Backbone", he could become like a racoon-human kind of thing, anything really. Thats part of their experiment with the fluid to mess around with the Kinds.

I believe its both, and the fact that most people in the story actually act for their own good and safety and dont care about others, even Renee before she creates a bond with Howard. It feels like there are few moments where you can change this though, especially since when he teams up with her.

Well, thank you for your addition to this topic, now its almost certain that we wont see our racoon again. But i dont agree with that person, it just feels like he had this good story and flow goin' and then he just burnt out and cut it half. They build up the atmosphere, tension, story acceleration, character connections and then they just pack it up? Dont think thats how writing works neither lmao. I even felt sorry for Anatoly :praisesun:

I agree, i dont mind depressing or bitter-sweet endings, but i want them properly executed, even if this was an end for Howard, they could have expand the story upon Bloodworth and Reneé, i mean we actually interacted as them for a few seconds. Feels like Game of Thrones S8 writing smh.

Just wow, this developer is in total denial;
He should be honest instead of hiding behind a "We did a great job!";
Explain why the dev team rushed the ending into this mess.

Seriously, it's obvious they wanted to stop the development and sell the game.
Maybe they were out of money.
Maybe they were exhausted with the project.
Maybe it was taking forever and just wanted to be done with it.
But don't claim everything's fine and the game is exactly in the state we wanted it to be!
That's pure lie, delusion.
I really feel cheated when I read tweets like that one.

The game had a huge potential to be amazing. It is on the Artistic side.

I completely agree with you. I think the story they built up was too overwhelming for them, and they didnt know where to go so they just rushed it, so they dont have to worry about that or whatever, i feel cheated as well, especially by reactions like that one on Twitter, its like he is saying that we are too dumb to understand, so we are mad.

Probably in the sequel we will have Venom Raccon, or Rocket Racoon, Or Prototype Racoon..... Or maybe just a normal Human

Yeah that would be great, especially the Venom Racoon or human mixed with racoon thing.
