To all the people complaining about lack of .chart support.
Please stop.

Phase Shift isn't meant to be Guitar Hero 3. It's meant to be like Rockband and World Tour (and above). In other words, the transition from Phase Shift to Clone Hero is, in my opinion, like transitioning from a .pdf file to a .jpg.

It is easy to convert a .pdf to a .jpg and retain the full potential of the .jpg. It is otherwise impossible to convert a .jpg to a .pdf and retain the full potential of how the .pdf works.

Phase Shift wants to retain the ability to have more than one unique track/instrument to be used at a time, especially considering its use in multiplayer/online scenarios. That is probably why .chart support is not focused on.

Clone Hero users. All things considered, I get it. I understand your predicament. However, I think we should focus on bigger issues, same as the devs are.

If Phase Shift should be like Rockband and World Tour, let's talk about implementing rb3con support first. How about it?

====================

Rant aside, I recommend checking a site called "C3" and getting 'Rockband' versions of the songs that you enjoy playing. There is a convertor tool that will allow you to play those songs in Phase Shift. I think it will allow you to enjoy both Phase Shift better as well as music as a whole.

Thank you for reading, and I apologize for the rant. Just felt the need to inform.

To all the people complaining about lack of .chart support, go back to Clone Hero. We're ok with .mid for 9 years already with Phase Shift and much more with Frets on Fire.
Cheers.

I mean, it's pretty much the same topic as converting iTunes m4a to mp3. Literally does and acts the same ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ way, so why not just make it universal? Why the do i gotta convert just to play the things ive already spent hours acquiring?

I get the frustration, but also consider another example of this situation.

In Rockband 3, Harmonix had implemented a new instrument. The Keyboard. Keyboard was really, really cool and allowed the piano niche to play alongside their friends. I even own a Keyboard myself.

Then people took the Keyboard (or in your case, .chart songs) online in Rockband 3 to try and matchmake with other people. This meant that people could only play Keyboard (or .chart) songs, which limited everyone severely. It came to the point to where people would just stop playing online because they would keep matching up with Keyboard users, and that would guarantee that they couldn't play anything.

.chart, from what I recall, only supports one instrument. Guitar. This means that every time you went online, you would be screwing over every non-guitar user. That is why .chart support isn't implemented or focused on in Phase Shift.

Clone Hero is a free game. You could always run Clone Hero when you want to play .chart songs, thus allowing you to enjoy your songs, and allowing us (the online community) not to be limited by your song library.

I hope this example helps. Thank you for reading.

I get your point and it's honestly a shame that there's just no universal extension to just use all as one. From what I'm coming from, I started here on Phase Shift in 2013, and only switched to CH last year in May. I was able to use all my charts from here in CH with absolutely no conversion. Granted some songs had forced strumming in places that kinda messed up the tone, but didn't make anything unplayable, and still to this day I have those charts and everything still playable. So after downloading every single GH and RB setlist and getting to around 6500 new songs, it's a little frustrating to not just link that folder to here and off I go to enjoying again. Some work, but around 6000 of them do not.

Yea. I get that tbh. The only thing I can really recommend is that maybe the C3Con tool will help with your situation. There's already an "rb3con to Phase Shift" convertor built in that converts everything at once (provided they're in the same folder). Makes conversion a breeze. They might have something that could help you as well.

I got that back in the day when I converted the whole RB3 setlist :P thanks though

Why people want support for an inferior format instead of urging people (such as the charters they download tracks from) to use the superior format is bewildering to me. They can simply convert existing songs or ask people who make the charts to use the better (and more compatible) format. It doesn't make sense to me to urge such an advanced game to add support for a format that doesn't support most of its features.

The only thing I can think of is that Clone Hero doesn't have online support, whereas Phase Shift does, or guitar users want to play Phase Shift songs in the same playlist as some of their Clone Hero songs.

It might be worth looking into (offline only) .chart support, but obviously there are a lot of other features (and formats) that should be focused on first and foremost.
