Phage
Anyone else having trouble with them? I ran across them while trying to get more research points and following up on the coordinate given in one of the squiddy trader's stories.

Now they're just attacking Kite Station in wave after wave and I can't upgrade my ship. I've apparently just ended my game.

I would like to mention because some players apparently miss this: you can load any previous autosave from the main menu. So if you find you're getting horribly stuck at some point, you can jump back a dozen saves rather than ♥♥♥♥♥♥ from the beginning.

I believe they stop attacking once you manage to destroy a whole wave before the next gate in.

They seem to follow a huge circle before coming back on a second pass for the station. When they are far enough you have a small window of time in which you can dock.

I did that with the first two. Now there are about a dozen ships and I just can't take them down.

I didn't particularly have trouble with them. My station was upgraded and was actually able to defend itself fairly well. My lasers were upgraded so much it was possible for me to position myself in such a way their lasers would fade out without hiting me but I could destroy them from the same position... And missiles, albeit kind of weak at that point for me, made it even easier.

Yeah, that's a problem for me, I think my missile tech got bugged because it never showed up. I'm still using plasma cannons, haven't run across the laser upgrade or anything either. It just annoys me that there's no link between star systems, but the Phage are able to pop out of the wormhole and batter at Kite station.

Not sure what you mean by laser. I mean the laser turrets you get from the start.

Oh. The plasma turrets? I think I'll just start over.

Plasma turrets are all you need to finish all the current content. Just go up a couple levels in range. Phage have a shorter range and are easily kited. My ship was pretty weak at the point I completely defeated them.

As far as there being no link between systems, you just haven't found it yet.

Yeah, it's nice that the phage are easy, the problem is that I do not have any research points and they are *currently blowing up kite station.* I really feel like tripwire events such as this shouldn't be possible, at least not without a decent manual save system.

The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Ah, as far as saves go, it automatically saves every time you go through a portal. You can load any of them from the main screen all the way back to the first one. Not easy to pick the exact one you want if it was a while ago, but checking a few saves will get you close.

Yeah I'll have to reload a save and try to figure out where I can find more research points without painting myself into a corner.

I read you were supposed to find missile tech early on, and I can build the frigate design with a missile module. I just can't build additional missile modules or place them on other ships. Is this a known bug or should I just keep killing Ch'tik?

I encountered the Nyctians and their colony before i found the phage. I was exploring the empty space around the top of the map. I was coming back and found them along the way.

They spoke of an experimental propulsion machine. I had no idea where it was or what it looked like. I searched around for about an hour and a half until i found a system with phage ships roaming around.

They appeared friendly at first but then they turned on me and made the worst mistake in their miserable history. I eventually wiped them out and deployed the counter bio-weapon against them.

The phage never attacked Kite Station i don't know if this has something to do with the fact i decided not to activate the warp nexus in their space. (That seamed like a bad idea)

So if i've killed them off how do i get this Phage Eradicated Achievement. I don't know what to do about that at the moment they aren't around any more i haven't found a single ship in 20 minutes of patroling.

The Achievement Our Nyctian Friends i helped them with building their colony up and some of them came back to Kite Station with me including an assistant science officer but that didn't trigger an achievement notification either.

Of course there could be something i'm missing (likely) maybe helping to repair the Nyctians scout ship instead does something different to the little story line of the phage.

Maybe if i went to the red ooze origin 'hallow are the Ori' planet first collected the info for the counter bio-weapon and then explored the other planets in the other systems. Some of them had phage on them that i couldn't go back and re-scan to bomb them with the counter bio-weapon.

They had already been scanned before i got the Counter bio-weapon.

justkevin were you watching Star Trek Voyager while thinking up the phage to put in-game. Are you gonna give up your face and your organs?

I have encountered some trouble with the Phage - my Science officer wants me to fetch him a sample - but I can't find any.
The only planet in their systems I haven't explored yet is -9.6 x 3.6 which they told me is off limits.
As soon as I check that place they all turn hostile - and I don't get any sample as the Science officer wanted anyway.

I found a sample of 'red goo' on a planet that I think was the sample in question. Unfortunately the science officer isn't flagging that I've already grabbed it.
