Recommended Controllers
We highly recommend playing The Spiral Scouts with a gaming controller. In particular, we did our best to make sure that Xbox 360/One (including popular 3rd party Xbox-ish controllers like the Logitech F310) and Playstation 3/4 controllers are fully supported (as long as they are compatible with your operating system and you have the proper drivers installed).

Steam Controller
The Steam controller is also usable in a slightly more limited fashion. You'll have to hop into Steam Big Picture Mode and map the controller buttons to the appropriate keyboard keys.[78.media.tumblr.com] The on-screen prompts will still display as if you're using a keyboard, but you'll be able to play with the controller.

Troubleshooting
If you are using an Xbox or Playstation controller and it's working, but the on-screen prompts don't change to match your controller's buttons, it means for some reason the game isn't recognizing the name of the controller. If this happens, go to the title screen, hit "9" on your keyboard to show the input debug, and then hit one of the face buttons or the control stick on your controller so the input debug will display the name of your controller. Post the controller name that shows up here so I can add it to the supported list.

using standard ps4 controller using default drivers, or using DS4Windows to emulate a 360 controller both results in input debug saying "Input: Keyboard" when i can go through other controller supported software (steam, don't starve, windows 10 game stuff) just fine

even after pressing face buttons on menu, and restarting pc, it still doesn't recognize it

IMPORTANT EDIT: works fine when i plug it in. i was using the wireless adapter, which was not working

PS4 controller i got to work via usb
but non of my xbox contollers are detected via usb or bluetooth :(

When I launched the game with my Ps4 Controller over bluetooth the button prompts popped up for my controller but when I pressed 9 it said my input was still keyboard and my controller wouldn't do anything.

It seems like PS4 isn't being recognized over wireless for some reason. I'm looking into it but you should be able to plug it in and play in the meantime.

After hitting 9 it said "Input keyboard", I'm using a ps4 afterglow and its plugged in.

I can't get my controller to work either, I have a PS3 controller but I also have an xbox 360 emulator program and it still won't register. I can use the controller fine on my laptop in tests but it refuses on Spiral Scouts. Is this a problem for anyone else?

My Sony Dualshock 4 is not working plugged in via USB or with the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wireless adapter. Controller works fine in control panel and other games.

XBox One controller (original) dont work in both bluetooth and usb mode. It work with other games.

My DualShock 4 via USB, DualShock 4 via ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wireless adapter, and 360 controller via ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wireless receiver all would not work.

However if I unplug the DS4 wireless adapter before starting the game, both the wired DS4 and wireless 360 controller begin to work. If you replace the DS4 wireless adapter, they all cease to work again next time the game is restarted.
