How to play with Skate. Controls
Just purchased the game and realized the controls are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrible.
Does anyone have any mods, or setting guides? Only things I can find are
from last year and Legacy Mode isn't accessible anymore.

You can't. This game is an ENTIRELY different control paradigm. Other control schemes simply would not work with Session. Not possible.
Take the time to get used to it. You're controlling each foot. Not just pushing buttons and the sticks to do pre-set tricks. This control scheme allows you to make up your own tricks.
Once you get used to it you'll love it. For realz.

like artao said, you can't. This isn't SKATE. Switch to front/back-foot control scheme and at least you can steer with the left stick.

Agreed that front/back is easier to grasp. I use it. I get the idea of "left foot/right foot," but with the sticks it just doesn't feel intuitive and natural as much as front/back does. YMMV.

weird as a skater I much prefer the left foot/right foot. Feels much more intuitive. It's exactly the same except when in the goofy stance anyway

i certainly agree that they are terrible and well even tho their really terrible i got used to them. but once i got used to them they recently changed them again into an even more desorientationg bs.

Hey now, I'm a skater too here eh. Started in the 80s.
What I find awkward with left/right is the reversal on the pad. IRL there's physicality to it. With the controller you switch it over with your thumbs. And ultimately I do "think" more front/back foot when skating.
Different schemes suit different folks. That's why multiple control schemes is good to have. I'd like to see player-assignable buttons.

And yeah. It's like with every release they change how controls feel and/or work. And then don't really explain to us, the players, what they've done. They just tell us about YAY new shoes, pants, hats, another pro ... But what about the actual game mechanics. The gameplay. The single most important thing. The allegedly "Best and most realistic skateboarding game in the world."
These days I play it every now and then for like 30 min or so and get bored or frustrated that I can't do ... well .. ANY transition or vert stuff. Just flippy tech tricks. The game is pretty sweet for that. Even grinds can be difficult now.
I have YET to figure out how to do a slappie. If even possible.

Yeah they keep changing things for no reason. If they want to do this just add more control schemes like a normal game.

The other day actually I was digging through the options and noticed that it had be reset to left/right foot. I changed it back to front/back and now I'm not finding some things so difficult.
The game reset a LOT of little things like that, here and there, with this last update. I keep finding em.
I was messing with filters the other day, and now it won't go away ....

Old school skater from the 80s here, too.

I actually really like the left/right foot controls (though it took me quite a while for them to become second nature). It mimics real life for me: in the game, I'm really great at regular and fakie tricks, ok at nollie tricks, and my switch needs work, lol. Custom controls sound GREAT. I'd change fakie tricks to the same as regular and just flip the camera to look over the shoulder which is more accurate as a sim of real life.

Yeah, the lack of transition, vert, and grabs sucks. They don't even have basic pick up and throw down animations figured out yet. And their communication has been shoddy at best.

But I still have hope that they can figure this stuff out.
