i done the first few tricks that dud wanted me to do. now hes gone and i have to search for him across all maps?

and yes the grinds feel terrible at the moment. i feel like im doing everything right but the guy just bails grinds that he should stick to.

You will find him at the Pyramid Ledges where you still stay for days trying his requested tricks only to fail because grinds are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ at the moment.

they work, but you have to make sure you're not using the triggers to do the tail one. only use your sticks.

i try other settings out later, but the settings i played the last few months with are not working out well.
also its like 50% chance if i do a kickflip+grind (as i intend) or the guy decides to darkslide.
i feel like im pressing the same thing again and again but the outcome is not always same. feels strange

you can lower the window for the dark slides in advanced settings, or do the grind input after the window passes. when the deck graphics are up, that's the window where the grind input will perform a darkslide instead.
