Flip trick out of manny

How do I get more pop out of a manny to do a flip trick? I've tried releasing the stick just before the flick with the kicking foot but it isn't helping. If that's the key, what is the timing.

Also, the tutorial says the A button pushes with the left foot and the X button pushes with the right foot. Don't know if that's just to trick me into pushing mongo for the lulz or if it was a legit error.

Anyway, loving it so far, had a couple of crashes but nothing too stressing.
