Theoretically, there's probably nothing super difficult stopping the camera from being placed at head level and allowing a motion tracker to control where it goes and just playing normally with a controller.
i wonder if it's possible to make a mod to handle that type of first person vr behavior? i would imagine overriding the camera position and inputs wouldn't be terribly hard, but it would probably need an awful lot of smoothing and stabilization
man that would make the game so immersive. in the scope of a skating simulator, that would definitely drive the simulation home if implemented properly... until you get stuck in an infinite kickflip loop
There is also one map for first person view from a modder. so you can try it out without the option to look where you want too.
