Why make the game so difficult to play?
Man I thought SkaterXL was hard to control, To olly in SXL all ya gotta do pull the stick down then jsut let go, but in Session you gotta pull the stick down then at the same time press the other stick up, then let go so your board stops tricking, then to grind u gotta pull the stick down or up again. Does the game REALY need to be this hard to control? Half the time he either doesnt jump at all or does a flip trick insead of an olly. thenthat screws up my landing to go into the grind.

In the options you can set the controls to be Font/Back or L/R but you cant switch them so the R stick always jumps and the left stick tricks, which im just not used to, but you cant switch them, which id rather have. As crap as it is SXL is actually easier to control. So why the hell did they make this game so hard to control? Wheres my rebind button options?

I think a lot of times the frustration for this game doesn't make up for the reward. Spending 1 hour to land a trick perfectly is not an achievement if you can't consistently do it time and time again after 'learning' to do it. You think people who skate in real life feel accomplished because they can accidentally pull off a laser flip once in 50 tries?? That's going to impress no one.

How do you think the pros learned? Every day they practice and fail hell they still fail time to time just not as often. For pros it takes days or hours depending on how many you spend to do the trick over again. That's why it's called learning a skill. Everyone goes through it manga artists, cooks, editors for videos, Animators, engineers.

I don't know if you know how skating works. There are many instances where a skateboarder spends days to get a photo for one trick or clip at one spot. It happens a lot. The devs had that in mind, if you refer to the kickstarter they wanted to make that feeling of progressing and getting better. Skateboarding is a grind and practice makes perfect, I think this game exudes that mentality.

"The devs had that in mind"

Well then the devs are morons if this is the reason, cause no one is gonna play if it took 3 days to pull off a trick. I'm not going to ask for a refund, but I'm not going to play again untill the controls are fixed. Maybe you guys like punching your self in the ♥♥♥♥, thats your fetish not mine. I play computer games cause I dont want to go outside and put effort into learning a trick in real life so that I can boast about it on a video game forum just so I can say pulling a trigger button is so realistic.

Well I mean, it shouldn't take you that long. Practice the controls, you can get the hang of it. Just like anything else, you practice and you get better. I doubt they have plans to "fix" the controls like you want, they have their concept and I doubt they are going to change it.

If that is the case, I better not see anyone here claiming the controls are realistic to skating and land any trick in this game that they can't do in real life.

Yeah i saw that too. They were making the game look horrible. they couldn't even do simple things like grind a ledge without falling 20 times first..
The french guy spend a hour just trying to grind a park bench.

It's not difficult per se - it's early access and unforgiving most of the times I THINK. I had a hard time with it as well. But got past it 1 or 2 hours in.

No it doesnt need to be difficult at all to have freedom. Other games have done it just as well without using such a complicated control scheme. Making the game so hard to control takes AWAY freedom, because you CANT make the game do what u want.

You're right, difficulty and freedom are completely unrelated. Stop trying to make them related.

You're right, there are other games with easier controls. If that's what you're looking for, play them.

You're right, YOU can't make the game do what you want. But I can. I feel like I have total freedom.

Well good for you, dont you feel proud. They made a game just for you... and no one else. Make sure you have fun playing on an empty server when the game gets multiplayer, cause you'll be the only one left.

Agree, stupid control scheme that needs to be fixed ASAP
Nex Sep 19, 2019 @ 3:14am
Making this topic is just asking to get flamed by people who think hard controls = realistic game. Bandwagoners can never admit that something they like is bad, because it can do no wrong. Let's over complicate the controls to be hip and original. 'oh man, these controls are hard. Just like real life.' I bet these nerds never even road a skateboard. I will not buy a game where you steer with the triggers, because they devs lack common sense. Yep, unless the game is near impossible to play, then it isn't realistic.. Can you make the controls any worse? The try-hards are relying on us.

I used to skate and snowboard growing up. There is one snowboarding game on here that has really bad controls to the point it is easier to just go do the stuff IRL.

I would have bought this game today.. There is literally a massive void in the market for skateboarding games on PC. Not one dev can just give us a decent experience. Always has to be some BS..

Personally I love the controls. I like a steep learning curve. I would've got bored of the game if I felt like a pro skater within the first hour. Now I've gradually learned to pull off bigger and more advanced tricks. It's super satisfying.

Grinds on the other hand, they are a bit too tricky to land. I have no idea how to do a board slide because I feel like my reactions are too slow to pull off the combo. But maybe I'll get there soon enough, that's the joy of it.

I love the controls. Its just satisfying to land even simple tricks. Grinds and Slides are hard to land but hey, its something you can figure out. I just cruised around only using the trigger and ollie for longer time to get used to the steering. That helps a lot.
The option to control the flip speed and catch is really nice allthough I dont use catch yet. But I will definetly one day.
