peasants blocking carts and stopping everything
Hi guys,

I have the issue that some peasants are delivering goods to a warehouse on that side, where the rails are feeding the cart. It happens that the peasant can not drop his iron (in this case) because warehouse is full. Then he just stays on the rails and blocks the cart that try to empty the warehouse but they cant because he is blocking them from driving away.

Any thoughts how to solve this?

Use a belt to get the iron to the warehouse instead. Or, delete the peasant for a bit, until the warehouse depletes enough iron. The pathfinding in this game isn't great though, so usually, I'm looking to use peasants and carts as little as possible - their carrying capacity is so small, and they almost always get in the way at some point.

Minecarts are actually pretty good for the bulk goods they can carry. A circuit of metal minecarts + metal-or-better rails has a really high transport capacity, and you can mix and match different goods on the same circuit without anything getting stuck (if you limit each mine cart to one type of good).

You can do fun stuff like funneling all of your coal and iron into one barn in one way or another, and then have an oval mine cart circuit that sends the coal and iron to a bunch of smelters - and if you really want to overdo it, you can build a second circuit on top of the first one and double your capacity.

It's very space efficient for the capacity it provides, doesn't require spaghetti belts, and I assume it's probably good on performance, too.

@topic: You really shouldn't want your workers to walk on railways, it'll just cause you problems. You can soft-"force" workers to take a different route by connecting the warehouse via a path (and you can elevate that path above the rails), but more generally, you probably want to redesign your layout.

And as SGreenwell correctly said, you probably want to start using belts asap. Limiting the amount of movement that workers need to do is one of the first steps of increased productivity.

Oops, sorry - By "carts" I meant wagons, haha. I forgot that those are two separate things in this game! Yeah, a loop of minecarts can be just as good or better than belts, depending on what you have access to easily on the map.

Thank you guys for the feedback. Summary for me is to just not use peasants. :D
