Fat Man Bug [SPOILER]

I'm at the part where you have to sneak past fat man and turn off that life support, then go grab the energy cell in one of the morgue slots, then run away from fat man. At the end of that chase, you jump into an incinerator and have to walk through ash toward a grate where your buddy is on the other side, and at that point you either have to grab the grate and pull, or push the grate; I wouldn't know bc I can't do either. I move through the ash toward the grate and press the heck out of the grab button and it will not grab it.

Am I stuck? Is this a known bug?

Do you use controller?? I heard it's harder with keyboard and mouse but I don't really know I only use an Xbox controller.
