Some things weren't also always obvious to me. Spend the entire game with the idea that doors without doorhandles do not open, so i got in trouble when i was in the collapsing house. I kept looking for a hole in the ground or something like that to pass through while the solution was pushing the closed door.
The controls also sometimes felt janky. I play on keyboard and mouse, and if you want to slide you have to run with shift, and then press the control button. So i kinda had to push down 2 buttons at once with my pinky and time it perfectly. felt janky. I also got caught on corners when sneaking, and it felt like you could climb waaaay less stuff as mono than you could as six.
And keyboard and mouse flashlight controls were also kinda messed up ( had a lot of trouble getting passed the patients ).
I loved it though, both 1 and 2 are works of arts
The hunter dies too soon, and the doctor shows up so late in the hospital level that he doesn't have lasting impact.
As for the final bosses, I'm split. I think both gameplay wise they are about the same, but lore wise; I find the Geisha lady more creepy than the thin man.
For the setting. LN2 gets points for the being bigger and more diverse but I rate LN1 higher because it’s setting was unique. Not too many horrors games use the sea as a stage. So Ln1 ins simply because it stood out from many other horror games.
Now gameplay wise, while LN2 improved many things. It still had a few frustrating sections. At least for me. I found the hammer parts a bit annoying. A missed timing results in a game over and that can be just a tad bit annoying. Also, trying to aim your light while outrunning the mannequins was frustrating. But overall nothing down right terrible.
Finally, the endings. LN1 for me. It was disturbing. It was like wow now that is a twist I didn't expect. LN2's twist didn't give me that feeling at all. It wasn’t a bad ending, but just didn’t have that impression I got from the first game.
I can get behind this. I enjoyed 2 but 1 just pretty nailed the creep factor and that feeling of loneliness. For comparison the chase scenes which oddly the devs reused in 2.
In 1 you are sneaking by these group of gluttonous people who seem to never be full. Suddenly you are caught and you must outrun them. The stakes felt so high because it's dinner time and you are fresh meat.
2 decided to try that again with the faceless people. The stakes didnt feel quite as high and me personally as I saw it coming the moment I reached that section whereas in 1 it caught me off guard.
