Yes, there is a tutorial. Click Saga Mode, and then tutorial. But also, even in a solo world story, the cat monsters will talk to you if you naked punch something important.

OP the NPC in spawn area tells you where to start...put down an ALL FORGE and keep going from there...

The allforge is a free structure you can place anywhere in survival whenever you want. Using it, you will be able to repair your gear and craft new structures (mainly crafting stations).

To start, you should grab some basic resources on the floor in the forest biome you spawned in (focus on the surrounding at this height). Plants, twigs and some minerals can be harvested without any tool. Once you got enough, build the tool grinder at the Allforge and place it in the world. Now you just have to craft your tools from it and you are all set!
