New Player Here, is Solo/2 Player Survival Possible?
My boyfriend picked up the game for both himself and I with the intention on playing together. He went ahead to play it solo since I'm still riding this masochistic high that is Path of Exile's current league.

We're not really sure how he should be playing this game solo. He managed to survive for about 3 days before a fire Jotunn showed up and destroyed the Seed. There was no way for him to be able to kill it quickly enough.

And to make matters worse, we've only got 2 classes we can play and the rest requires unlocking in Saga which is either done alone or with matchmaking. If my quick glance through this forum is anything to go by, it seems like solo saga is the only way to play right now.

Is it possible to enjoy this game solo or with 2 people, or did my boyfriend waste his money?

I LITERALLY came here to ask this very question as a buddy and I just got this and are looking to play it just the two of us since it said co-op.

Me too when my friends suggested to get this game for a 3 players coop. We managed to survive days 13 saga mode before we exit back to Valhalla

Guess the game isn't too active since it took more than a day to get a reply.. sigh..

When the Jotun enters Midgard go find it. Beat it down to the last 1,000-2,000 HP then leave it alone. Look on the map and follow the road it's on all the way to the village. Build an Archer Tower that would be the closest to the Road entry point. Now do whatever you want.

When the Jotun arrives the tower will finish it off and you can pick up the loot when you return. I repeat that for every Jotun. If you ever get the Jotun is Close to you village warning and Helsings are due be prepared to head back to the Village and deal with the Jotun yourself. Archery Towers frequently stay focused on the Helthings and the Jotun will just destroy the gates.

Reason for Letting the Jotun get to the village is simple. Time for next Jotun to spawn only begins when you kill the current Jotun. Killing it at the last possible time means you don't get the next as soon

Also don't forget to change weapons if available for the different Jotuns. Light/Dark and Fire/Ice. Helthings that attack the Village are Dark so if you can get Lightning weapons, Nornir Axe/Bow From quests or Craft them equip them when defending village and Dark Jotun.

Building the Quarry, Lumberyard then Farm should be a priority before building anything else. Archer Tower mentioned above being the exception.

If you create a party of just you and him you should be able to start a Saga mode and have it set to just your party, you 2. Least that's what I do with my brother on PS5.

I'd recommend not spending horns in the alter in the village. Game of chance.

In the main screen you spend horns to unlock things. I'd get Villager Rune starter rune so you can start with basic armour, sword and shield. Can use skill near resources to collect them. If you don't find enough branches or flint you can always craft the flint from stone and branches from wood.

I'd then save for the purple/Epic runes followed by the Ragnarage rune. When you get these drop they'll help. Pretty sure they stack too.

With practice, good runes, good map and start to it you should do fine. I've managed to kill the Fenrir sage boss multiple times in Solo mode, 11 days my best.

You should be able to ignore Helthings attacking village for the first 2-3 nights as they shouldn't be breaking the gates most of the time. Just keep and eye out for a warning incase they do and call home if needed.

Blood moons are a different story, Need to defend the village for everyone of them. If you get arrows from camps put them into the Archer Towers for Blood Moons.

Upgrading Tinkerer, Armourer and others also improves their fighting ability not just what they can craft. If you're defending the village and 1 of the 3 gates is weak leave the gate up so it doesn't break and concentrate your defence from there. Can shut it occasionally if you want to weaken attacks on other gets.

The Healthier the Tree in the middle is the better the healing of you, villagers and the gates are so don't forget to feed it souls.

Playing it on PS5 whilst I'm having PC issues. Game wise never have an issue with player numbers. Assuming its just the forum that seems a little quiet. Hopefully improve when the next big Saga update happens.

What do you mean by this? Can you build towers anywhere, or are you suggesting I build them near the gate their road takes them to?

Can build towers either side the gates, inside the village, The base tower is there but no Archer section just a flat top. Consider NW, North west, NE, North East and S, South, for the gates. Each of them can have a tower to the left and right of them.

Now, imagine the Jotuns path comes down towards the village and then round to the right side towards the NE gate. It'll reach the NE gates left side Archery tower first. Build that one. If you build the other side the Jotun will stand where the left tower location is and destroy the gate before the right tower can even hit it.

Excuse the sucky example but thought it'd make it easier to follow and saves me prepping an image and uploading it somewhere.

If the path the Jotun is on comes towards the Village in the example below. Tower 3 is the closest and will be the only Tower in range (least until it the gate is destroyed and Jotun moves closer to tower 4 as it enters.

EDIT: Didn't realise forum would not use the blanks spaces :/ Filled the blanks but doesn't look as nice as originally planned. Grabbed a link showing left side Tower on the NW gate......Sure it will be better than my first attempt at Ascii art lol

The goal of the game (saga mode) is to kill one of the two saga bosses or both if you're fast enough. It is possible but the solo experience is not that great. Dying is not forgiving at all. You'll be at a constant rush and if you die carrying a lot of souls or in a place where you can't get back easily your items, well time for a new run.

I managed to survive to day 16 and unlock the Warden class, so I'm looking forward to seeing how that plays out compared to warrior. Also got Berserker I might try too.

Yup, I can get to and kill Fenrir between day 11 and 14 almost every time I try solo. Serpent I can't even get to activate its portal before day 14 and then I'd just be defending village.

I tend to put everything important in the warchest before leaving the Village and then port back to village to repeat. Especially before doing a hideout. Hate the trolls don't mind the werewolves.

Have to say I'm forever stocking up on soul potions too. Got the soul mate and soul powered unlocked so if holding 10,000 souls for another 500 dmg per hit and I die thats a lot of dmg down the drain, soul potions at least help recoup some.

With Warden I tend to take durability first (1), then portal Hp/Mana(3) when used it
A-B-C
1(Warden) - 2(durability)
3 - D -E

AB reduce crafting costs so you can make weapon/armour cheaper along with with cut stone and stuff.....Doesn't cut costs to build quarry, village stuff :( and

C soul buy/sell, Sounds handy but I rarely find a merchant to buy/sell in saga mode as they tend to be somewhere you need to sale to. Handy for Survival mode.

D port back twice as much is nice
E gets a 6th rune.......wish that was possible on more classes. Once you get some good runes unlocked it's even better. Pretty sure runes stack too

You can easily solo/duo both saga and survival game modes. Game is rough at first, when I started out I lost a few times too, but you'll learn the ropes and it becomes a lot easier. Some of the previous posts offer some help, but if you still struggle there are guides online that can help you out too.

go hit things, get weapon kill big bois
Pants McBulge Jul 23, 2022 @ 10:31am
these are all noob tips, get yourself nothing to hide rune with feral starter kit, raider axe 3 or muspelheim 2 for the multi hit abilities and you and your buddies will learn the rest quick enough

if you are getting ended by the first jotun, just go meet it quicker next time, or use a better weapon

What part of the OT made you think they are intending to play with multiple buddies?
OT makes it clear the OP is a Noob to the game so tips of any type are relevant. Oh and FYI I've killed both Saga bosses Solo by day 12. You tip is only good for a specific play style while other players are there to help. Solo and duo wise not so much
