Tribes of Midgard

Tribes of Midgard

What are the dev's plans to revitalize this game?
This game is essentially dead! There needs to be improvements made to the solo player experience so that people can still have fun playing this SOLO if they can't play with other people. The game itself needs to be changed drastically otherwise it's dead.

EDIT: With the newest announcement; I am actually really happy to see the change in direction for the game. I will 100% be checking out the new 2.0 survival mode! Thank you devs for listening.

The current in-game population make 100 days achievement with random ppl become impossible. All public world i tried are abandoned or destroyed within 50 days, no one willing to play in survival mode. I need to solo with 17 hours(and +17 hours if you fail) for that fuxking ice-axe gear, this is the most annoying achievement in my steam :(

Hey! I highly recommend joining our Discord where we have some awesome players who occasionally share their 100-day worlds or team up for it. If you haven't joined already!

My first game review on Steam was for the beta testing of Tribes of Midgard, dated December 13, 2019...

I really liked the game, I liked its style. It still is. But in my comment at that time, I wrote:

And actually the only thing I focussed in these open-world games, is depth of gameplay (for example Path of Exile). Game should give players lots of options and roads to choose. Due to that, Tribes of Midgard can have trading, crafting (more), housing, hunting, farming... any many more feature to expand and deepen the game core. Maybe even "neigbour villages", "world crisis", etc, events can be made...

Think about Majesty 1/2 concept. There were non-playable heroes who protects the castle from coming monsters. We were just upgrading our buildings and items for heroes. So in ToM we are actually playing that heroes whom responsible proctecting village (tree). In this case, town/village can be more alive, region can have more interactive quests, rewards, randomly triggered incidents, etc. I'm not fond of PvP challanges so PvE is ok for me, but I always seek "replayability" in a PvE game for not to feel in loop. I guess i was able to tell you what I mean.

Related to the previous note, limiting the game's core to only "defending base from waves of enemy attacks" can be negative for future of the game and annoying for players. To form a game community and keep it alive, there should be things more interactive and lively. Maybe tribes war, or guilds to attack ancient monsters...

Well, In addition to liking the game very much, I suggested that it should be developed in depth for its future. I hope its now on a more advanced path.

By the way, adding the game to Geforce NOW would be a plus for the fastest, easiest way to get some quick results. I think there can be an increase effect on player counts.

The devs can't even be bothered to acknowledge steam forums or answer anyone's questions.

Hi, it's me! Discussion/feedback here is recorded and passed on to the team. I want to emphasize how important it is to us to hear feedback surrounding the game, and is much of why we solicit feedback consistently in our Discord.

We completely understand that the game, in its current state, does need more content. Season 3's update will release in August, and we spoke a bit about what it would entail here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aa5o_4j3-Ks
As mentioned there - after taking a look at Survival Mode in its current state, our initial aspirations for the mode, as well as community feedback - we know it hasn't reached its full potential. So with S3, we'll be revamping the Mode as well as preparing a new Saga update.

With the size of Season 3's update, and taking into consideration our team's well-being, this is the reason we are no longer releasing Mid-Saga updates.

Our second Dev Blog goes into a bit more of the Survival Mode preview as well: https://www.tribesofmidgard.com/2022/04/tribes-of-midgard-monthly-recap-the-allforge-and-more-dev-blog-2/.

We understand combat is an aspect that could use improvement as well, and it has been discussed with our team. I hope this explains things a bit better, and I'm around if you have any other questions!
Season 3 with the new Survival Mode, will it be better for solo players than the current Survival Mode? I'm really curious if season 3 will make the game better for solo players or the fun will keep for multiplayer stuff.
the game is literally easier solo lol

Go look at their announcements. That's all they have shown so far. Have to wait and see if Season 3 can bring people back.

My personal opinion is that the devs missed the ship. A lot of people coming into the game thought this was going to be more of an action RPG, similar to Diablo/Grim Dawn etc but with a town building aspect. Now the devs are kind of doing that with season 3 but it's hard to say. I dont think it looks interesting enough. There isnt enough content for the game to be played consistently like that. It was designed to play in shorter lengths. I'll be more than happy to be proven wrong, I really like what the game was trying to do. But the devs were hoping the smaller updates would work and it didnt because there wasn't enough content to begin with. Now they are playing catch up.
theres enough content to keep playing, the problem is you guys.

i cant count how many times i walk up to people saying things like "follow me, ruin spotted" to try and get some coop going, but everyone just goes by themselves because they are greedy for runes, effectively hindering the overall experience of the game (where you play with 9 other people and all share a goal)

you people play this game like its borderlands and your trying to steal the best loot from your buddies its pretty sad and pathetic, then you come on here saying that you cant have fun playing the game solo? its not meant to be a solo game jesus wake up and smell the roses.
I'm going to take a wild guess and assume that after season 3 runs its course, they will announce the end of live service, and shortly after that will end online service. I'd love to be proven wrong! I find the game very fun, but for a game meant to be replayed, it still lacks depth and much replay value.

Basically, what rubs me the wrong way is when I first shared my complaints in Season 1, I got attacked about it. I basically said that if they didn't make changes quickly, they will lose a lot of their playerbase. And they basically ignored it all, and every single one of their dev streams/posts felt so out of touch with reality.

Even now they seem so out of touch with reality. I want my $15 back honestly.
You've played 40 something hours, bit late for getting your money back mate
So how is the difficulty of the game? Me and a friend are planning to get it, but I keep seeing that people say it is very difficult (some say the opposite)
So ToA is not a diablo with town building aspect am I right?

Takes a little learning but once you get used to it you can solo or even duo the lot. Can even kill both Saga bosses in a single playthrough. Unlocking some stuff helps, better Runes helps

Sounds good, thanks for the info

All games lose their player base after the first few weeks if there's no weekly content updates alá Fortnite or if they don't have entrenched players due to MTX. Players these days generally consume content really fast and then they move on to new experiences. They don't like playing through the same content twice and something like Counterstrike would be dead on arrival if it didn't have bars to fill or things to earn for that reason. So that's completely normal if you'd look at the Steam top 100 played games right now, which is completely dominated by old games and games with a rapid content cycle. So that had absolutely nothing to do with not making the game "solo friendly", because the game already had favored solo players due to negative scaling since day1. The more players in the game, the harder it is to progress.
