im confused on runes

I am unlocking them but how do I use them? I dont see a way to equip them

You have a base pool of runes of which any can drop in game (randomly). More runes become available in that pool through unlocks from the season rewards.

They are equipped automatically on pick-up in game, but you only have a limited number of slots. Once you don't have any place available, you can destroy an equipped rune from your inventory to give a spot to a new one

With the exception of starter kit runes which you get at start of a game, the other runes need to be found by killing monsters and it's random.

Unlocking only cause those runes to be added to the loot drop table.
