Is chest contents shared between players?

I was only able to find other players in survival but I'm not sure about chest...

Yes the battle chest is shared by everyone in your game. And when using the blacksmith/armorsmith etc NPCs it pulls materials directly out of the battle chest. No need to keep them in your inventory.

I'd be more cautious about putting all my materials in the chest in random matchmaking. Like with any game with random teammates you'll see a lot of people not gathering anything but using all the materials in the chest. I use the chest when I'm playing with friends because I trust them to also gather materials.

Yea, why can't they make separate, smaller chest for personal use only? Like i farmed x rare resource to make that vital wep upgrade, but some radom dude just used it immediately...

Keep it in your own inventory, and don't put them on the chests. I agree that a personal chest is needed.
