Black Vikings?

Why are there so many options for characters and portraits that are obviously not Nordic in even a slight way? I understand having the ability to customize your character but for a game about Nordic vikings this seems more like I'm fighting for Wakanda.

If you want to know that it's at least plausible fiction because it's in the realm of possiblity to have colored Vikings, look no further than the movie The 13th Warrior. The writers understood that Vikings did reach into the Islamic empire and they had a population which included Africans.

Your correct, there never were any "black" vikings. As in Africans. As they never met. However there were a few dark skinned slaves taken in raids they took in Arabian lands after they sailed south past the English coast. Not sure any of them ended up raiding with the vikings though, doubt it, as few raids were ever taken that far south.

If I made a game about Africa and African culture and mythology, but I made all the characters white with blue eyes and blond hair that's not exactly following the proper mythology and culture. History, culture and in this case mythology, is about blood and soil, not just telling some fantasy story. You want an example of a game taking these concepts and playing them out in a really good way play Skyrim. Look at the dynamic between the Nords and the Imperials while still making it a fantasy RPG.

You create your own character in this game, do you not? What's wrong with letting you create a black character in a game meant to be played for fun? It's not exactly trying to be God of War or anything where they really love mythology. It's just a fun setting.

Also, that's funny because Skyrim paints the stormcloaks and nords in general as useful idiots for the Aldmeri Dominion, kinda like how racists, trump supporters and rightwingers in general are useful idiots irl.

And sure, you have every right to make a game like that. And you can advertise it however you like. People can disagree and be butthurt over it, but it's still in your right.

You never made the cultural appropriation point to me, you only talked about god of war as if that makes you a force of authority on vikings. I'm danish and I'm fine with them putting black people in viking outfits to beat up giants.
