Could not load file: settings.sav
Not played for a while. Tried to start the game last night. I get an error screen saying

ERROR: Could not load file: settings.sav
Ensure OneDrive is running and your Documents/DawnOfMan folder is available offline.

and the only option is to quit.
As far as I can tell my OneDrive is running, etc. I tried checking FAQ, reinstalling, etc. No luck. Little confused why this error says to make sure Documents/DawnOfMan folder is available while FAQ says to delete it but I've done both.

Hey,
I guess you already checked your Anti Virus / Security Tool / Windows Security Settings and allowed the game to read / write files - if not, do so.

My Settings File is located under: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\DawnOfMan\Settings
The content is:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <save_state> <version value="1"/> <quality_level value="0"/> <v_sync value="True"/> <fps_limit value="0"/> <anti_aliasing value="True"/> <resolution value="2560,1440"/> <bindings values="W,UpArrow S,DownArrow A,LeftArrow D,RightArrow Q,None E,None R,None F,None PageUp,None PageDown,None Return,None Z,None C,None V,None Tab,None F1,None F2,None F3,None F4,None F5,None F6,None F7,None F8,None Alpha5,None Alpha6,None Alpha7,None Alpha8,None Alpha9,None Alpha0,None Minus,None Space,None Alpha1,None Alpha2,None Alpha3,None Alpha4,None LeftBracket,KeypadMinus RightBracket,KeypadPlus Delete,Backspace H,None I,None"/> <camera_rotation_mode value="Turn"/> <edge_scrolling value="True"/> <music_volume value="0.7"/> <sfx_volume value="0.7"/> <ui_volume value="0.4"/> <language value="en"/> </save_state>

You have yours in the cloud (oneDrive) ? Dawn of man has access ?

It says the same for me, but I have already played over 50 hrs! Last a year ago, but still, worked fine back then; This is very frustrating. All other Steam games are working, wth? I did everything schwifty suggested, always the same:

ERROR: Could not load file: settings.sav
Ensure OneDrive is running and your Documents/DawnOfMan folder is available offline.

I installed the game all new, even twice within the last two days, this is ridiculous. No Help from Steam, nor from producer, any suggestions?!

Sorry to hear that.
Just suggesting another workaraound:

Check if the internet connection is up and oneDrive (if iused) is reachable.
Create a new text file, note the 'Settings' folder at the end of the filepath. (C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\DawnOfMan\Settings), edit, paste my settings, save as settings.sav

Cheers!

sooo, im assuming other then this fancy shmancy high tech solution that i wont even begin to try and understand, there's no fix for this? the game's just forever ♥♥♥♥♥♥? damn. wanted to slaughter some mammoths families.

The original issue was, that the settings file could not be found because it was offline (connection problems of OneDrive, whatsoEver).

Seems to be very similar to what recently was posted in general chat: https://steamcommunity.com/app/858810/discussions/0/5234891274086466595/

But in that case it affected the saves folder.
There seems to be some kind of issue with Dawn of Man and Windows OneDrive.

If your oneDrive works and you can access the folder called "DawnOfMan" in there:
Copy the whole folder to your local Documents, new location for the folder should be:

C:\Users\%USERNAME%\Documents\DawnOfMan

Whitin that folder should be subfolders containing saves and settings.

I managed to fix this issue by right-clicking the games folder on my OneDrive folder and click 'Always keep on this device' and I booted up the game and it seems to be working fine for me now.

After hours of struggling with this I found a fix that worked for me. Figures a simple solution was waiting all along.
