If anything more were done or redone with DoM, it should be to just enrich the existing eras and elements, and make the journey through them take longer, with lots of details to the experience along the way.
Morbius Machine isn't doing well? Not my kind of game, but that thing looked good and well done.
Edit - I looked at the store page. Morbius Machine looks to be doing ok. Released very recently. And lots of positive reviews for that recent time frame.
Not my kind of game either but, sadly, overall it has done very badly. It has yet to even top 100 simultaneous players on Steam. A grand total of 17 people are playing it as I write. In comparison, five-year-old DoM has 677 players currently in-game.
Maybe it will do much better on consoles, which it's obviously intended for.
I feel bad for the devs as they've clearly put a lot of effort into it and I (and many others) have derived hundreds of hours of entertainment and pleasure from their previous two offerings. I can only hope that they decide to return to a more popular genre for future development.
DoM 2, for example. :)
Where do i see current simultaneous players for example?
Judging by the generally positive reviews by Steam players, I suspect Mobius could do very well on consoles, where that type of thing is much more common. As a primarily PC player I, for instance, haven't really played a platform style game since... ye gods... probably Digger, which was released in 1983. :D

I could only play a game on P.C., but I know that a LOT of people like and even prefer console/deck. Don't think MM being a sidescroller is really much of a downside though. I can reasonably guess that there is a big market for sidescrolling and even a 'retro' experience. I have a game that i have only because someone gifted it, I wasn't interested because of it's simplified graphics (Clanfolk), but I was completely surprised and it's one of my favorites. There are many games out there which are of a simplified graphics or retro style which are quite popular I think. And Morbius Machine certainly looks really good and seems like it plays really good too.
I also have 2 sidescrollers (not being a sidescroller person myself) which are relatively finite in their gameplay, yet I think they're wonderful and I've replayed them a few times despite the finite quality -

For DoM, the general idea of a random map generator is good, but the game is mod capable...it seems that much of the potential for DoM is in the modding, and keeping that ability supported and up to date is the important part. But any enemy village wouldn't be right for DoM. That might be a bad idea. An idea that I DO like is being able to MP with one or two other players, having separate villages on the same map, and you trade with or raid each other. But I don't think DoM could be made into that, and it would only be good if the conflict element didn't get too prominent. The raiding isn't supposed to be what the game is about, And I definitely think that any later ages are a bad idea. It should remain a DAWN of man type of game.
It's my opinion that any kind of DoM redux should instead be to greatly enhance the time period of the game and what's already there. More detail, elaborations, options, possibilities, longer times for progressing. But all for the eras and ages that the game is already about and nothing more.
I definitely share your opinion on the subject of DAWN of Man, but I must admit I can see the appeal for those wanting the game to expand into the Roman era. Rome has always been a very popular subject for strategy gamers and a carefully-considered, significant DLC for optional expansion into that era could very well prove extremely lucrative for Madruga Works, potentially funding development of the much-hoped-for DoM 2 many of us would love to see released -- preferably before we meet our maker. ;)
Either way, whether it could be pulled off or not, I'd rather see that time and effort put to enriching the current DoM style and purpose. I'm inclined to believe that the majority of the popularity of DoM is based on it being what it is, versus some of the other wishes expressed by a few players.
It could introduce a new tech era, new goods and techs only available through trade (especially mortar, for a third tier of fortification), and high demand for some of your goods by those Roman traders.
Moreover, five years on since the original launch, average computer specs are much better these days so such as vanilla population limits could also be substantially increased to allow for increased growth (and in turn, greater military threat / larger battles).
Ultimately, Rome's legions would arrive... scaled down to suit the game, of course. Dawn of Man: Rise of Eagles would be a cool name for the DLC. :D
Culminating in a final battle, properly testing everything you've built and achieved to date, would be the best way of actually bringing the game to a satisfying conclusion - the one thing sorely missing from the current version, which kinda just fizzles out rather than ending with a bang.
As an optional DLC I think it would be in keeping with the evolution of your tribe portrayed in the game to date, provide for a more satisfying ending overall, and -- on Steam at least -- would be more appealing to far more players than their latest game has proven to be.
It would also be an ideal opportunity for the devs to include a range of improvements and enhancements to the game for all the earlier eras, along the lines you, I and many others have suggested over the years. This combination would, I believe, bring players flooding back. I for one would certainly happily pay at least as much for such a DLC as I did for the original game - it was always too cheap, IMO.
-Ability to domesticate and plant berries
-Ability to use berries to make expensive wines in a winery building. Wines are double the potency of beers and also increase fertility rates.
-A doctor or medical building to heal those sick or injured.
-An ability to build an even higher upgraded guard tower made from Iron, logs, and Stone (extreme health and has a capacity of 5 people)
-Creation of Chariots that can host 3 people... 2 archers/swordsmen one driver. These can be used to quickly meet and deal with raider threats as opposed to waiting for them to come you and missing a planting/harvesting season.
