Why was the game abandond?
It was going in a good direction. Some more features would really add to the game. Why did they stop?

the game was finished years ago. the recent update was due to a game engine update, and the game assets had to be updated for the new version of the game engine. That is all.

I would buy a DLC that adds to this game.

The devs have added everything to Dawn of Man that they wanted to add. It's done.

Trust me, you don't want a developer start adding features just to add features. It's a very quick way to ruin a game.

The developers also mentioned that they will be coming back to settlement building games later. They are currently taking a break from that genre and are busy with a sidescroll shooter.

It was not. That is nonsense for you say that.
Do you always spout nonsense? You must be annoying to be around, you always saying silly things such as that.

I think it's nonsense to say any game that isn't being modified is "abandoned".
Would you say chess is abandoned? If not, why not?

You could ask "Why don't they continue to develop the game, or add DLC, or a followup".

Oxygen Not Included, for example, was great, and now I don't like to play it because it was continued to be "developed". I WISH that game had been "abandoned". lol while it was great
Make ONI great again!

Modified ? No one is talking about modders. I was wondering why the Dev team did not want to add DLC.

Okay. Well I think most people when the hear "abandoned" it implies unfinished, buggy, not stable. Like they ran out of money, or lost interest. The dev from Rise Of Empire is active in the forum and just recently defended the game saying it was not "abandoned" that it is "completed". It's not like he took money from players and never completed the game.

Yes I agree with you that I would love to see more of Dawn of Man. DLC, part 2, more modable.

I just wanted them to add cats and the development of money along with more wall types and raids. More content could be a good thing if done right. An in game editor for maps would be cool too.

Can you tell me what exactly cats would add to the game? How would it make the game a better experience for the player?

Same with more wall types. It's already a big hassle to upgrade all your walls to stone. Doing all that for a new set of walls even though stone walls are strong enough as they currently are just makes no sense to me.

More content is a balancing act. You can easily make a game worse by adding a ton of new content that doesn't actually improve the game. For example someone suggested adding chickens for eggs. What would that actually add? We already got a lot of animals to choose from and some like pigs are already underperforming and often get ignored by the player.
It's easy to bury the player with meaningless choices that just get ignored, wasting developer time on something that doesn't actually make the game better.

I don't upgrade my log walls, I just build new stone ones, maybe as a second layer in some way, depending upon my design at the time. But all that work building the log walls . . . only to dismantle them and lose what they add? Big nope. I'm keeping that extra wall to be in addition to the stone wall I build, and I'm keeping all that work, time, and resources spent building it.

That's fair.
I usually do it out of space constrains and not wanting to change the established defence setup.

Yea...i have to plan ahead of time if i'm going to do that, to account for how much space is needed for this and that. Heh, lots of time planning and designing while on pause, long before I'll be able to build much of it but so it's accounted for ahead of time.

Cats would be part of an update that would add vermin to the game. It would perhaps be called "The Vermin update". In this update it would add Rats, Mice, and Snakes. The rats and mice would be quite small, able to run through walls, and eat food in huts and the granary. Early in game you could dedicate a few humans to trying to get rid of them but it is time consuming with a low success rate and requires time that could be better put elsewhere. In addition rats and mice would increase the chance of humans getting sick. This would work by increasing a chance to get sick for humans entering the buildings rats and mice are in. Snakes would also be in the game and would sometimes enter a hut or wander the map. Being hard to see would mean that humans might get bitten and poisoned while walking through grassy locations. But more often humans will get bitten by snakes who sleep in tents, or while the humans are sleeping in tents. Children who get bitten by snakes have a large chance to die.

Cats naturally hunt and kill all snakes, mice and rats in real life. Thus it would be so that cats kill them in the game. In real life cats were domesticated somewhere between 10000 - 5000 years ago. In the game cats will greatly reduce the the chances of losing food, getting sick, and getting bitten. In addition cats when tamed will provide a very small morale boost when interacted with. Cats and dogs can even be taken as pets for a more regular boost in morale. The downside of pet ownership is the large morale loss upon the death of a pet.

Money - In real life money was invented sometime around 5000 - 4000 years ago. I believe they were gold and bronze coins. At one time bronze was worth more than gold. This would be probably one of the last things you can discover in the game. It would greatly simplify trading in game. In addition your people would start to sell each other items opening up the option for marketplaces.

Map editor - everyone wants it. Its something that would greatly increase the longevity and popularity of the game.

Wall types - more advanced fortifications would be fun to design and have raided.

Other events - plagues and fires could add a lot to game play.

If this were all added as a DLC I would pay $20 - $30 for it.

Edits - spelling.
