Cannot claim that it is "the most flat" but it has a lot of space!
For Continental Dawn scenario: I really love Forest river, settlement spread across the river where you start at.
on which map did you find these flat areas?
I think that one reason why many players forego this knowledge is they only look at the standard settled starting locations. But i only play nomad, and you may have to nomad to a spot you find.
I think that another reason is that a player expects the big flat area to be obvious - not hidden by being covered in trees. I had to find these areas by zooming in and moving my camera around at different angles to figure out what was going on under the tree tops. I'd rather that be the case anyway, because I have plenty of logs as my place grows and I clear the area out along the way.
I cannot remember which map locations each of these were. I did a quick look for this post but couldn't make a connection. But I do remember finding some in all the locations when I chose these each time.

Lake Valley. From where the game starts you in settled mode (I assume it's the same in nomad), keep the camera oriented the way it already is. Move straight forward/up about 3 seconds. And there it is.
